Each year, it’s the same catchphrase. During its keynote opening WWDC, a conference dedicated to its developers, Apple presents the new features of its mobile operating system. It is therefore iOS 17 which will naturally succeed iOS 16, available in final version on iPhone from fall 2023.

The OS is now offered to developers as part of the Apple Developer Program, which allows them to access new products in preview in order to adapt their apps to unpublished features. For the general public, the wait will be short: the apple promises an availability of iOS 17 in the form of beta from July. It will therefore be possible to take advantage of the system, with a few bugs or dysfunctions, non -final version requires.

Apple announces that only iPhone from the XS model will be eligible for upgrading. Understand that the terminals prior to 2018 (iPhone X, 8/8 plus and older) will not be able to enjoy iOS 17. Excluding encrypted series, remember that the first generation iPhone will also be deprived of update. The first smartphones under iOS 17 will only be the iPhone 15, expected next September.

News without a revolution

iOS 17 welcomes new features, but without major overhaul. There are improvements in messages, facetime and calls, including automatic transcription of messages on answering machine and other “vocals”, modernized stickers and a check-in function responsible for reassuring his loved ones. We also retain contact sheets enriched with photos, news related to Airdrop or a standby mode when the smartphone is placed on a dedicated foot. The user will also be able to challenge the assistant by saying “Siri”, and no more “Say Siri”.

The new version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 17, does not constitute a major bone refonte. It includes neanmoin.
