IAA Munich 2023 – Mini reveals the new versions of Cooper E and Cooper SE in Munich

The new generation of electric vehicles from the manufacturer Mini offers a welcome technical and technological update. If the style evolves in small touches, the interior is completely revisited.

Last July, the editorial of clean automobiles shared with you its first impressions concerning the interior of the new mini cooper e. We discovered an interior entirely redesigned and modernized by the integration of a large, round, 240 mm diameter screen. A tribute to the first generation of mini launched in 1959, which allows the Cooper e to modernize and offer a level of screen personalization never reached so far.

Now officially unveiled at the IAA Munich show, it’s time to come back to other information concerning this new generation of the Cooper Electric.

Mini Cooper E: what changes on the look side

For this fifth version of Cooper (4ᵉ version since its buyout by BMW), some more or less important changes must be noted. The most visible of all concerns the disappearance of black plastic parts which dressed in particular wheel arches. From now on, these are painted in the color of the body for, dixit mini, limit the number of pieces in the construction of Cooper E and Cooper.

Another change, more discreet, however, concerns door handles. These are now rushing to the bodywork. It is prettier, more modern and, above all, it benefits nothing at aerodynamics. Besides, on the subject, the mini cooper E and Cooper promise a CX of 0.28, which is pretty good for the category.

Especially since the electric city car grows a little, now with 3.86 m long, 1.44 m high and 1.96 wide for a wheelbase of 2.53 m. The integration of wheels at the ends, with a low cup, remains another of the characteristics of Mini Cooper. The weight and turning radius are not communicated.

The front face of Mini evolves little. We find the same hood lines as well as the hexagonal grille characteristic of mini. What is even more so, these are these round headlights for which the manufacturer, however, indicates that they are able to create light entertainment. Also note that these headlights are now taking advantage of Matrix LED technology.

At the rear, the change is more pronounced in the lines as on the side of the optical blocks with the different shape and, above all, the use of pixels leds always representing the Union Jack flag. Finally, be aware that Cooper E and promise a loading volume of 200 liters of basic and up to 800 liters once the folders have folded down in their 60/40 configuration.

And here is the brand new electric mini (2023)

Mini lifts the veil on its brand new electric city car. It should leave the choice between two battery sizes and flirt with the 220 horsepower in SE version, for a maximum autonomy of almost 400 kilometers.

The current fourth generation mini is experiencing its last months. It will be replaced by a whole new version, whose marketing will begin at the end of 2023. Like the current mini, this future fifth generation mini will leave the choice between thermal engines and the 100% electric. The car which is revealed before your eyes in the images accompanying this article is the electric version, photographed in California without the slightest camouflage.

The style obviously remains in the brand’s canons, but the exterior design evolves quite clearly compared to the model it replaces. The grille becomes gaping, even if it is almost full in this zero emission variant. The profile appears both sporty and refined and the stern displays lights with a very different drawing. On these first official images, the car seems successful (if you ask me for my opinion). And note that the car will remain well available in three -door version, a body of bodywork now very rare in city cars.

Two battery sizes

Mini remains silent for the moment on the technical characteristics of the machine. Mas in the information relayed a few days ago by the English coach journalists, mention was made of two battery sizes offered: one 40 kWh feeding an engine of around 185 horsepower (with maximum autonomy 385 kilometers), the other of 54 kWh connected to a 218-horsepower engine and an autonomy probably far above 400 kilometers. As a reminder, the Mini Cooper is content with 32.6 kWh batteries (240 km autonomy) and costs € 37,400 in the first price.
