How swapfiets work ?

Swapfiets is a bicycle subscription. For a fixed monthly price, you have a swapfiets still in good condition. You have a problem ? Contact us via the application and we install it or exchange it within 48 hours.

What types of subscription do you offer ?

We offer two types of subscription: flexible or loyal. With the flexible subscription you pay registration fees but can terminate at any time. With the loyal subscription, you do not pay registration fees but can only be terminated after a minimum duration of 6 months.

What happens if my bike is damaged ?

No problem. Maintenance and repairs in 48 hours are included in swapfiet subscriptions. Contact us via the application, describe your problem and we will repair or exchange your bike. If you have an emergency in one of our service zones, we move to make the repair on site.

What happens if I am stolen my bike ?

In order to avoid flights, always be careful to attach your bike ! All our bikes are equipped with two integrated anti -thefts, our electric bikes also have an additional lock for the battery. Always attach your bike using the two safetys. If your bike is stolen (or you lose it) when it was swarming and attached correctly, a deductible will be invoiced to you. The amount of the deductible varies depending on the type of bike you have. But do not panic. In the event of theft of your bike, we will help you fill the complaint to the police and we will provide you with a new swapfiets immediately, so that you can pedal again.

What happens when I want to terminate my subscription ?

Follow the instructions for the swapfiet application to end your subscription. All our subscriptions have one month’s notice. If you have a loyal subscription, you can terminate it after 6 months. As soon as you have rendered your bike, we will do a complete check and put it back in order to have a second life with a new member.

What is sustainable mobility package?

The subscription proposed by Swapfiets can be taken care of in an optional way up to € 600 per year by your employer. We accept the mobility title on our website when payment. The SwapFiets subscription provides you with a solid bicycle and an efficient customer service in the event of a problem. “Bicycle as a service” presents its strengths.

Perhaps you have already had the attention attracted by a bicycle to the blue front tire. It is a swapfiets, a bike offered for rent by a company that will provide repair in the event of a problem. So here is a new example of mobile as a service – maas or mobility as a service – where you are not the owner of your means of transport. Our expert tried a swapfiets for some time, and he did not fail to also test his assistance service.

An electric bike for € 50 per month

Swapfiets offers you the choice between Three formulas bicycle rental. You can get a classic city bike for € 18.90 per month, an electric bike for € 49.90 and another somewhat higher level e-bike for € 75 per month. We opted for the intermediate formula, the new Power 1. After submitting our online request, we made a first payment and we agreed to go and take possession of our bike in a swapfiet store near us. This solution is only possible in certain cities (student). The bicycle can be delivered to your home, specifies the website, but only “in our service zones”. In short, if you live too far, maybe the subscription will not be accessible to you or will not be able to take advantage of part of the service.

THE Power 1 East A bike at a single speed Equipped with a battery supposed to ensure a range of 80 km. Obviously, it is a good quality, solid bike, without fantasy, with lighting solidly fixed to the frame, a serious padlock, a crutch and a torpedo brake (activated by pedaling behind). The swapfiets is clearly a robust bicycle, without elements that risk detaching or likely to be manipulated, which will bring you quickly and safe from point A to point B, and preferably vice versa. This objective seems to be achieved.

The swapfiets gives an impression of robustness, with few removable elements and cables as much as possible integrated into the frame and secure.

Basic on the dish, painful in the coast

As it is a fairly basic bike, the lack of certain functions is sometimes felt. “Starting with the fact that the bicycle has only one speed,” says Steve Mestdagh. “Even if the speed ratio has been well chosen and is neither too easy nor too hard to ride pleasantly in most circumstances, we still have one speed. And we have to manage with this unique coast speed also, where it still becomes quite painful.”You must also start assistance at each departure. With other bikes, those with a Bosch engine for example, the intervention of the assistance is automatic. “But also, it allows you to decide to do without this assistance when it is not necessary,” notes Steve.

This approach also explains why the bike is only offered in a single dimension. “Whether you do 1.60 m or approach the double meter, your bike will be the same, which seems quite questionable,” says Steve. “We are rather supporters of different dimensions, so that you should not do all kinds of adaptations to adjust the bicycle to your measurements.” THE luggage rack at the front is friendly, but not always practical, for example to fix a bicycle bag. The diagonal beam resulting high enough on the seatpost is a bit annoying to put yourself in the saddle.

New free saddle

So that’s for the bike. But what about the service included in the monthly subscription ? To get a clean heart, we have been “flying” the saddle of swapfiets. We reported it by phone, and we quickly obtained an appointment for a repair at home, the next day.
Barely three minutes after the time set for the appointment, we saw the repairer appear on a swapfiets with a trailer bearing two other swapfiets. The new saddle was quickly mounted, and the bill was up to € 15, according to the technician. It was first agreed that the intervention would be free, and we finally did not receive an invoice. Excellent service, so ! It goes without saying that we scrupulously returned the saddle “stolen”.

€ 1,500 in case of loss

We paid € 49.90 per month for electric swapfiets with a single speed. Since then, The price increased to € 59.90. Admittedly, it’s a lot of money, but for this price you have a good quality, robust bike, and an excellent repair service. The monthly subscription can be terminated each month, with one month’s notice. If you opt for the formula Loyal, You can cancel after six months. With Flexibel, It is already possible after a month, but there are registration fees.

If something happens at the bike, the note is presented to you. The loss of the key costs you 15 €, that of the charger 65 €. Theft or loss of the battery is billed 350 €. If it is the bike itself that has disappeared, it will cost you € 1,500.

The purchase of a more or less comparable electric bike, but with speeds, easily represents an expense of € 2,500. For this price, you therefore have a suitable bike for 40 months, without concern for repair or maintenance.

Certain provisions imposed by swapfiets are nonetheless questionable. For example, the company inflicts a fine up to € 2,000 for “professional use” of cycling. “It’s really a lot of money, and swapfiets does not explain anywhere how it happened to this amount,” said our financial expert, France Kowalsky. “The provision authorizing swapfiets to increase its prices without its clients being able to terminate their contract is not legal either. But this clause is in contradiction with the possibility of terminating the subscription each month.»

The bicycle without worry at its price

Swapfiets is a good example of “Mobility as a service”, of “care”, which saves all concern for the consumer and is part of the trend of which is increasingly preferring rental for purchase.
