Apart from the folding model, the most compact of others, is the iPhone 14 Pro. It is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra which is the heaviest with a weight of 233 grams against 227 grams for the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, 206 grams for the iPhone 14 Pro and 187 grams for the lightest, the Galaxy Z Flip5. Open, it is the latter which is the finest offering a profile of only 6.9 mm against 7.85 mm for the Apple mobile, 8.9 mm for the Samsung and 9.06 mm for the Xiaomi.
The latter two have a battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh against 3700 mAh for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and 3200 mAh aboard the iPhone 14 Pro. It is the Mobile Xiaomi which recharges the fastest supporting the load at 90 watts against only 45 watts for the Galaxy S23 Ultra and 25 Watts for the Galaxy Z Flip5. All can recharge wirelessly and offer the reverse load (except for the iPhone 14 Pro which cannot recharge other devices with its back).

A new year full of promises opens on the smartphone market. Certainly, and we will come back to it, shadows disrupt the sector and force manufacturers to adapt. This involves ever more sophisticated and durable models, two concepts that will punctuate the years to come. The manufacturers remain in search of the model that will capsize hearts, while making commitments as to the duration of the days they guarantee for their smartphones.

In this case, we are interested in the most anticipated models of the year 2023. You will find a lot of high -end smartphones (but not only), because they are the ones who set the tone. The more affordable models will come later, in the same way as folding devices. The latter wave the segment, but they are still far from being in all hands.

Samsung Galaxy S23 (Ultra): Pixel battle to come

We have already started telling you about the Galaxy S23 in long, wide and through. The new Samsung series will be unveiled on February 1 and will have three representatives: Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra. Between iPhone 14s and Android competitors, the world number one does not want to waste time.

The first two promise adjustments to put pressure on Chinese competition. However, all of Samsung’s know-how-in a classic smartphone-will take place within the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The term “ultra” is trendy in manufacturers to highlight the flagship model of a range. With its powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (even in France) and its main 200 megapixel sensor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra still wants to be the smartphone of all superlatives.

The world number one could also make the difference on the software part. Samsung stands out by ensuring 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates. In the Android universe, the brand gives the example and others – like Oppo – follows suit.

iPhone 15: Ultra surprise ?

Cite the iPhone among the most anticipated smartphones is not really a surprise, but it remains a must. At the age of 15, Apple’s flagship device continues to make the rain and the good weather on the market; especially on the premium segment.

It is still a little early to find out what the apple has in store for us in 2023, but this cuvée could be historic. Indeed, we are waiting for the range to go to the USB-C and all the models will be affected by this essential change. Apple is not obliged, however, to cross the course this year and could reserve this change to its pro range. It is also likely that the difference continues to widen between the basic models and the pro variants.

The most expensive iPhone would have the future A17 Bionic chip, while the “classic” iPhone 15 and more would welcome the A16 Bionic … which today equips the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. As expected, the brand would shift its strategy to offer the latest news to pro devices and sell proven components on its standard versions.

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus could equip themselves with a new 48 megapixel sensors. An interesting news that would help the series to cross a new CAP, even if the telephoto lens and the Lidar sensor should remain exclusive to the pro variants. The information will be refined over the months and the other big surprise could come from the iPhone 15 Ultra, a new very high -end smartphone. The arrival of the Apple Watch Ultra has revived rumors about this new model.

Oppo Find X6 Pro: a future king of the photo ?

Behind the “historic” that are Samsung and Apple, Oppo may have the most expected smartphone of the year in its boxes. After the very convincing Find X5 Pro, the Chinese brand will present the Find X6 Pro and this smartphone may well be the new king of the photo. Since the fall of Huawei, Oppo has tended to establish himself as his “successor” with premium models at ease in photo.

The Find X6 Pro plans to drive the nail by offering a neat technical sheet, emphasizing photographic performance. It would embark three 50 megapixel sensors. Among them, the 1 inch Sony IMX989 that we have seen in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and which offers interesting performance.

To accompany it, Oppo would add an ultra-wide angle of 50 megapixels (IMX890) and a telephoto lens (IMX766 or IMX890) with an optical zoom x3. And to control this smartphone ? The inevitable SOC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 of Qualcomm, without forgetting the second generation Man Marisilicon X chip. Also note that the device will have the expertise of the Hasselblad photo specialist.

Oppo did not reveal the release date of its future flagship. If we trust the manufacturer’s habits, the presentation could take place at the end of February, or early March. He will be accompanied by Find X6.

OnePlus 11: power, a lot of power

Unlike several models mentioned here, the OnePlus 11 is already official. While waiting for its international launch, the OnePlus 11 made its debut in China. Successful beginnings if we believe the manufacturer who wants to prove things in 2023.

Very close to Oppo, OnePlus intends to keep its singularity. The OnePlus 11 sticks rather well to the philosophy of the brand with its 6.7 -inch Amoled screen, displaying in 1,440 x 3,216 pixels up to 120 Hz. The device has the latest technologies (LTPO 3.0, Dolby Vision, HDR10+…) and is very powerful.

Among the first models of the market to embark the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 of Qualcomm, it adds up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4 storage.0. For the photo, the specialist Photo Hasselblad accompanies a promising configuration composing of three sensors, including a Sony IMX890 main sensor of 50 megapixels (Ois). The smartphone will be entitled to a global launch on February 7. It could prove to be a little more affordable than its premium competitors.

Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro: Always more ambition

Like iPhone 15, the launch of Pixel 8 will not intervene before the second of the year. Google is currently focusing on its pixel 7 and the arrival of the Pixel 7a, which will also be one of the models to follow this year. Regarding Pixel 8, it is still rumored that Google smartphones could experience a major evolution of the photo sensor. This element is already a strong point in the range, while the Mountain View firm does not include the latest market sensors. The software processing makes the difference, which does not prevent the manufacturer from working on new solutions.

Thanks to the efforts of Samsung, Google seeks that its Pixel 8 will take care of the staggered HDR. To find out more about this, do not hesitate to read our article dedicated to this innovation. Concretely, future devices would be able to limit the effect of vagueness on moving subjects and therefore to improve the quality of the pictures. However, it would force the firm to integrate a new sensor (Isocell GN2) of 50 megapixels in its pixel 8. Its preception would help in low light and this module is also deemed to be less energy -consuming than the current ISOCELL GN1 of the Pixel 7. The basic model would also offer a new, more compact design.

The launch of Pixel 8 is scheduled for fall 2023. We could learn more from the spring, during the Google I/O conference. This year, it was not excluded the possibility of landing a folding smartphone in the Pixel range.

Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro: more than outsiders

Launched in China last December, the Xiaomi 13 Pro will soon be beginning in Europe. Renowned for the value for money of its smartphones, Xiaomi wants to climb in echelon by inviting itself to the high-end segment. With the Xiaomi 13 Pro, it could well be the right one as this model presents convincing arguments.

During its presentation, we had confirmation that the Chinese manufacturer was not there to configure. Its Xiaomi 13 Pro offers an OLED screen of 6.73 inch (LTPO) displaying in 2K (1,440 x 3,200 pixels) up to 120 Hz. The brightness climbs up to 1,900 nits, which is rather impressive.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is there with a maximum of 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage (UFS 4.0). For the photo, he has a 1 inch Sony IMX989 sensor of 50 megapixels (f/1.9) with Hyper Ois. This is associated with a 50 megapixel telephoto lens (f/2.0, 75 mm focal length) offering an optical zoom x3.2. It is also an ultra-angle of 50 megapixels (f/2.2) which takes place on the back of the device, offering a versatile configuration.

The Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro would show themselves in Europe during the MWC 2023. We will also keep an eye on the possible launch of a Xiaomi 13 Ultra in the coming months.

Samsung Galaxy A54: the one who will sell best

The Galaxy A54 is a bit intruding among the models mentioned here. It will not be premium or really high -end and will not necessarily have a flagship functionality allowing it to stand out. Yet the Samsung Galaxy A54 has its place in this file, occupying a special place.

After stopping the Galaxy Note range, it is the Galaxy S Fe which is absent subscribers. The Galaxy A52 and A53 suckers therefore has all the cards in hand to make the link between the mid -range and the high -end at the number one on the market. These predecessors were bestsellers and the Galaxy A54 will try to repeat the same recipe, that of the attractive value for money.

To do this, we expect an Amoled screen that exceeds 6 inches (from 6.4 to 6.6 inches depending on the rumors) and a cooling rate at 120 Hz. Under the hood, the chip would win an update (Exynos 1380) and we are waiting for a main sensor of 50 megapixels, in addition to the ultra-angle of 12 megapixels and the macro module (5 megapixels).

A sufficiently solid configuration with a price that we always hope. The little extra: the software support would be equivalent to the Galaxy S, or four years of Android updates and five years of fixes. It should be formalized this January.

The most anticipated smartphones of 2023

The two Chinese smartphones of Vivo and OnePlus are also eagerly awaited in our regions for their original and elegant design, both offering a rounded photo block.

But they will be far away, for once, to occupy the entire scene. Each brand, including Apple, yet already well installed, will compete in technological prowess to appropriate market share in an ultra -competitive sector. 2023 will also be a pivotal year for folding, with in particular the arrival of Google in the field. Samsung has something to tremble.

The iPhone 15 and its very high -end models

Apple could offer us with its iPhone 15 some notable differences. Scheduled for the start of the school year in September, these high -end smartphones, without revolutionizing the genre, should bring their share of interesting new features.

We are talking about the arrival of an ultra iPhone 15 in place of the traditional pro max model. But what the whole industry will scrutinize will be the abandonment, or not, of physical buttons by Apple, for the benefit of haptic backtracks.

Another point of observation, which could this time concern all the models: will the apple giant have integrated a USB-C port in its iPhone ? The new European directive, which will come into force in 2024, forces the manufacturers selling their products within the European Union to adopt this standard. Nothing has yet been confirmed, of course, but it is said that the device could be equipped with a Thunderbolt 3 compatibility, allowing an ultra -fast transfer of data. A clue to the presence of the USB-C port.

Apple smartphones are among the latest products of the brand to still have the House Port Lighting. We will also note the potential arrival of WiFi 6th compatibility on all models. Finally, the fears of seeing the launch prices of the iPhone 15 even higher than the iPhone 14 are intensifying while inflation flies away.

The Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro

Technically, we already know these Xiaomi 13 and 13 pro. The two high -end smartphones of the Chinese brand went out in China at the end of last year and we are therefore already aware of their technical characteristics. The Pro version will notably take on a main photo sensor of an inch and an ultra -fast recharging at 120 W. As usual with these models, the company releases them on the world market a few months after their initial release.

We do not yet know their exit date or respective prices with certainty. However, recent leaks report on the arrival in France of smartphones on March 8 at prices of € 999 for the Xiaomi 13 and € 1,299 for the Xiaomi 13 Pro. Prices much superior to the 12 releases in March 2022. The brand will confirm all this information very soon, probably during its event during the MWC in Barcelona between February 27 and March 2. The ideal platform for an advertisement with great fanfare.

Google Pixel Fold

In our regions, on the folding smartphone market, Samsung reigns (still) undisputed master. In Europe, only Huawei and Motorola display enough courage to compete with the South Korean brand. But 2023 should bring its share of new stables in this segment, each hoping to shade the Korean giant.

Main novelty of the year, Google’s arrival on the market. The Mountain View firm should announce its ostentatious Pixel Fold, a first folding smartphone that has already leaked in large widths in recent months, but whose existence Google was still existence.

The device could offer an internal 7.69 inch screen and an external screen of a 5.79 -inch diagonal. On the price side, you should not expect a miracle, the leaks indicating a launch around € 1,800. The folding smartphone could be presented in the second trimester, at the end of spring.

The pixel 7a, pixel 8 and pixel 8 pro

Next giant smartphone to be announced, Pixel 7a, Google mid -range device, is still very secret. At most we saw its possible design thanks to different leaks. It will look a lot like its higher -end models, while offering a slightly lower finish. Its screen borders could also be wider than on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro released last year. Price level, you will have to expect a fork at least similar, if not higher than that of the Pixel 6a.

Then, the year 2023 will see the new Pixel 8 and 8 pro of the brand arrive, which intends to capitalize once again on their technological capacities. It is still obviously too early to have concrete information on high -end smartphones. However, we can expect an image processing and photos by even better than what their predecessors have proposed. Photo level still, devices could use HDR technology staggered thanks to a new Samsung sensor.

Oppo Find X6, X6 Pro and Find N2 Flip

We do not know about the Oppo Find X6 and X6 Pro, except that the high -end smartphones of the Chinese brand should arrive in France this year this year. Previous leaks revealed to us what the devices might look like. It is once again their, gigantic photo block that attracts the eye. The series of devices should be equipped with a 50 -MP inch main sensor. The presence of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip will allow the brand to offer Ray Tracing on the games developed via its internal engine. A little extra that stirs up curiosity.

On the folding side, France will only welcome in its businesses that the Find N2 Flip model, in Clapet. Oppo indicates that its smartphone will be equipped with the largest cover screen ever integrated into a smartphone of this type. If we believe the visuals, indeed, the exterior screen would occupy a large place of the shell and could display a diagonal of more than 3 inches.

The Honor Magic VS and Magic 5 Pro

We had tried it a few months ago and came out with more questions than answers. The folding Honnor Magic vs smartphone should take over the French market in a very short time. Obviously, the Chinese brand hopes to come and make a little shadow in Samsung which dominates the market, but nothing has yet been played, in a year 2023 when the number of actors in the segment will explode. We already know that Honor will be present at the Mobile World Congress on February 27 to launch his new devices there.

Among these, the Magic 5 Pro, which we ultimately do not know much so shortly before his arrival. It is very possible that the device has a rounded photo block, again. In this, he settles in the continuity of the fashion of Chinese brands which adopt this kind of photo block for their high -end smartphones. We will probably know at the end of February how many sensors will equip the smartphone and if it will be entitled to an ultimate model, as predict rumors and leaks.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5

The next Samsung folding smartphones have not yet revealed a lot of their secrets. They will be among the latter in this list to be announced to the general public, probably next August, like their predecessors. These very high -end devices are still likely to offer extremely high pricing positioning, despite a competition that sets in. At most, we know almost that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 could accommodate a location for the S Pen stylus.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 should also receive a facelift on their hinge. Depending on the leaks, this new hinge would allow better closure and therefore better sealing. The Z Flip 5 cover screen could finally see its size reworked. Without going to tu the likely screen of the Oppo Find N2 Flip, it should still gain importance.
