Firefox Monitor is part of a series of features that Mozilla will unveil in the coming months to help Internet users safely sail. Recently, Mozilla has announced its strategy in terms of tracking, and other features will be launched in the next two months to strengthen the rights of Internet users and always guarantee them more protection.

Firefox Monitor launch: protect yourself after data leakage

On the Internet, personal data flights are legion and it is not always easy to know if our web accounts have been compromised. Mozilla constantly develops new tools to help users protect their data. Today, it’s Firefox Monitor’s turn to enter. This is a free online service that warns Internet users when they have been affected by a data leakage. After a first test phase this summer, positive results and returns confirmed the usefulness of this functionality.

To use Firefox Monitor:

Step 1 – Go to Monitor.firefox.com and enter your email address in the corresponding box. Thanks to a partnership with “Have I Been Pwned” by Troy Hunt, each email address will be analyzed and compared to a database that acts as a directory of all the security flaws that have existed so far. Mozilla will inform the user of any hacking of his email address and/or his personal data on the websites in question. If information has been compromised, it will be necessary to change your password for each account using the tested email address.

2nd step – Stay informed of future data leaks

Users registered on Firefox Monitor will be informed of all data leaks as Mozilla teams are aware of it and will be notified if their personal data is compromised.

Do not worry, each email address will be protected when treated and analyzed. We had already specified the technical details of the treatment of these addresses at the time of the first launch of the experience. The process is in accordance with the principles of Mozilla, which makes the protection of Internet users data a priority.

Firefox Monitor is a data notification service offered by Mozilla which alerts you if your online accounts have been exposed in a data leak. Using the Have I Been Pwned database, Firefox Monitor keeps track of known data leaks and warns you if your online accounts are compromised, advising you on how to protect yourself.

To find out if your online accounts have been exposed to a data leak:

Without Firefox account

1. Open your web browser and access Monitor.firefox.com.
2. Enter your email address in the search field.
3. Click Check Data leaks to start the search.
4. Scroll down to see the details of the data leaks that could compromise your accounts online.
