How to identify the sound model ?

You will find its version thanks to the model number registered on its back, its identifier indicated in the settings or an element of its design.

Model number

The best way to identify an iPhone is to refer to your model number. On an iPhone 7 or anterior, you will find it on the back of the device and it is preceded by the letter A.

Once the number is found, take a look at the list given below to determine the model you have.

Note that the same iPhone may have different number. Indeed, the latter also serves whether or not it is compatible with certain frequency networks and bands.

Reference number

The reference number of your iPhone gives more details on the model you have, including its color and storage capacity. You will find it in the settings of your smartphone. To have access, go to Settings → General → Information.

Next to the model n ° option, you will discover an alphanumeric code starting with the letter M or N.

Design

If, for any reason you find no number, know that you can identify your iPhone thanks to its design.

Compare their screen size, curved or square edge, the presence of a reception button or not, or the number of photo sensors.

iPhone 3G and 3GS iPhone

The back of these iPhones is curved and it is made of plastic. The rear shell of the 3GS is brighter than 3G. It is also available in white.

These two models look a lot like the iPhone 5C.

iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S

The iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S both have the glass front and rear, their outline is made of stainless steel. They have a white and black version.

If we get attached that in design, it is difficult to distinguish them. Their main differences are therefore technical. For example, the iPhone 4S marks the arrival of the Siri vocal assistant.

The iPhone 4 has a storage space of 8, 16 or 32 GB, while the 4S also has a 64 GB version.

iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 is very similar to the two previous iPhones, apart from that it is a little larger (4 inches).

iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5S seems identical to 5, but it differs thanks to the integration of the Touch ID sensor.

The home button is a circle and no longer a square.

Also, the iPhone 5S is offered in gold, silver and sidereal gray, while the 5 is only available in black or white.

iPhone 5C

The iPhone 5C shell is curved and plastic.

This model is sold in much more lively colors: white, pink, yellow, green and blue.

It is also larger than the 5S, and its shape is more square than the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S

The design of the 6th generation iPhone (iPhone 6 and 6s) has been completely redesigned. Its edges are curved and their screen is wider. There is room for six rows of icons, without counting the dock.

The on/standby button is placed on the right side.

The iPhone 6S is available in pink gold, silver, gold, and sidereal gray and you cannot be mistaken because you will see the letter s engraved on the back.

iPhone SE (1st generation)

The iPhone SE has the colors of the iPhone 6 and 6S and the design of the iPhone 5S.

It is made of glass and aluminum. Its on/standby button is on the top of the device.

To distinguish an SE from a 5S, just turn it over, you will see engraved at the back.

iPhone 7

The iPhone 7 screen is 4.7 inches (diagonal). It looks like 6 but it is finer. In addition, the horizontal line at the bottom and upper back was removed from this model.

A detail but which is very important is that its lens is slightly from the hull.

The iPhone is available in 6 colors (pink gold, gold, silver, black, jet black), and this is the 1st iPhone to have a red version.

iPhone 7 Plus

The iPhone 7 Plus is not surprisingly similar to the iPhone 7, but larger (5.5 inches). Its on button is placed, meanwhile, placed to the right of the device.

The iPhone X was released in October 2017 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the American brand.

iPhone XS

The iPhone XS has no significant physical difference with the iPhone X, this is its weight, 177 g, against 174 g.

Its OLED Super Retina screen has an 84.4 % body ratio when that of the XS is 82.9 %.

These two models still have a few identical points, they offer three memory capacity options (64 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB), three colors (gold, sidereal gray, silver) and a double photo sensor at the rear, vertically arranged.

iPhone XR

The iPhone XR is quite easily different from other iPhone. Its screen is an LCD Liquid Retina HD 6.1 inch, larger than the XS. It weighs 194 g and offers three memory capacity options, 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB.

Apple only equipped it with a photo sensor placed on the back, and it is available in several colors (red, yellow, white, coral, black or blue), which reminds us of the iPhone 5C.

iPhone 11

iPhone 11 Pro Max

In terms of display, the iPhone 11 Pro Max has an Oled HDR Super Retina screen of 6.5 inch very bright, especially thanks to True Tone technology.

At the rear, it has a triple square objective with wide angle sensors, ultra -wide angle and telephoto lens. Overall, the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a design identical to that of 11 pro, the only difference is in the size of the screen.

For this model, Apple offers you the same colors and storage capacities as the 11 pro.

iPhone SE 2 (2020)

The iPhone SE (2020) is the smallest smartphone in the Apple catalog, since it has a 4.7 -inch screen only. At the bottom of the latter, Apple added a home button that has Touch Id technology.

iPhone SE 3 (2022)

The third generation iPhone SE was presented on March 8, 2022. iPhone 14 and 14 Plus

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, 5G compatible, respectively equipped with a Super Retina XDR OLED screen of 6.1 and 6.7 inches, a double photo sensor (main and ultra-angle) of 12 Mp. They integrate iOS 16, embark an A15 Bionic chip and rely on 6 GB of RAM and a storage space ranging from 128 to 512 GB.

iPhone 14 pro and pro max

The old iPhone SE (2016): a risky bet

Reconditioned price: 90 to 140 euros

Exceeds ? Its current users are often happy with it. Thanks to its ultra-compact format and its large central button, the old man pilots with one hand with disconcerting ease. The iPhone 8 (2017): always valiant

This smartphone costs the double of an SE of 2016 but it is a less risky choice: it will probably receive several software updates for two years and we can hope that its menus remain fluid at least as long. iPhone SE (2020): easy to live

New price: 490 euros; Reconditioned price: 300 to 380 euros

You think that innovation is skating in recent years ? Here is the best of the old world. The iPhone SE is easier to use than the most recent smartphones of Apple with its large button that allows you to return to the comfortable reception and screen margins that allow you to catch it without precautions. We reach the top of the screen with such ease, and we pilot it so quickly that we are happy that this model, compact and discreet, still exists.

But we cannot have everything: the battery of the SE is a third party less enduring than that of an iPhone 13. Its screen is also much smaller, but it is rarely really annoying, except for those who are looking at a lot of films and series with a big show, even more for frequent readers of A4 documents. A problem that worsens when you see closely and you don’t like to put on your glasses to consult your smartphone.

iPhone 12 mini (2020): compact and modern

This smartphone is almost as comfortable in hand as an iPhone SE of 2020, a rare quality for a current smartphone. If it is a little less easy to use, it however benefits from more modern equipment: its screen occupies the whole front facade of the smartphone and displays black blacks thanks to OLED technology. We unlock him by presenting his face to him and not by fingerprint. It incorporates a 5G antenna, which may eventually become an asset if the network improves.

The photos of the 12 mini are much better when the light is missing and it takes a large angle which allows to take beautiful landscape photos. Its battery is also a little more enduring. In short, it is a mobile “on the page”. In terms of pleasure and visual comfort, however, the iPhone 12 Mini suffers from the same problem as the SE: its screen is just as narrow. Again, it is particularly annoying when you open an A4 document.

iPhone 13 Mini (2021): Overkill

New price: 810 euros

Even if we have not yet had the opportunity to test the iPhone 13 Mini, its advantages seem very thin against the 12 mini: some percent of battery life in addition, a very slightly improved exterior readability, photos of photos more pleasant night – but those of the 12 are already very successful. Very few users will see the acceleration of the processor, notable only within very rare gourmet applications. The difference of 120 euros seems unjustified to us.

It is rather for you if:

• You are looking for a compact mobile but in a point.
• You capture a lot of photos at night or in the evening.

It is not more for you if:

• You are attentive to the value for money.
• In the years when Apple is not important to offer, the brand should refrain from launching new iPhone.

iPhone 13 (2021): costly improvements

New price: 910 euros

We don’t really have a reason to doubt Apple when the company Sales the assets of the iPhone 13 against 12. Its screen is certainly nothing brighter, its slightly more enduring battery and its night photos probably better than those of the 12 which, as said previously, were already of quality. These advantages do not justify, in our opinion, an additional cost of 100 euros compared to the iPhone 12, still on sale and with a decrease price. Except maybe if you capture a lot of videos with your iPhone, because the iPhone 13 is offered immediately with a 128 GB memory-an option billed 50 euros on the iPhone 12.

iPhone 13 Pro (2021): the best photos

New price: 1,160 euros

The prices of the basic iPhone 13 seems already excessive, those of the “pro” models are much more so: the tariff deviation seems to be decorated with timid improvements offered. The photos of the 13 pro will certainly be the best never taken by an iPhone, especially at night, but the difference with the iPhone 13 will be spectacular ? iPhone 13 pro max (2021): excess

New price: 1,260 euros

Let’s move on to its price perched at unrespirable heights, the max has the same assets as its little brother on 13 pro – better photos at night and slightly better screen – as well as an additional asset: an extended display surface. Its giant screen turns out to be pleasant for leisure and practical to work on A4 documents, but the max is paying it very dear, in terms of price as ergonomic.
