Clean Automobile is a community information site that is dedicated to everything related to the automobile and the environment. The most popular themes of our Auto Blog are the electric car and hybrids, but we also approach the GNV / GPL car, hydrogen car, political and environmental aspects related to the automobile. Internet users are invited to react to blog articles in the comments, but also in the various forums that are made upon them. The most popular of them is certainly the electric car forum which centralizes discussions relating to the arrival of these new vehicles. A lexicon centralizes the definitions of the main technical words used on the blog, while a database of cars (marketed or not) lists electric and hybrid cars.

Toyota will hit hard on the electric car with impressive autonomy

If Toyota has never believed too much with 100 % electric, the Japanese firm begins to change your mind. Better still, she now wishes to catch up in the field by developing cars offering great autonomy.

Unless very improbable, the sale of thermal cars will be prohibited throughout Europe from 2035. Only a few exceptions will be authorized, for manufacturers selling less than 1,000 vehicles per year and for those driving synthetic fuel. The others will therefore have to comply with this rule. And that doesn’t appeal to everyone, and in particular Toyota, who has never really believed electric.

A new strategy

But this is slowly changing since the arrival of his new Koji Sato boss, which now replaces Akio Toyoda. Indeed, he wants to review the brand’s strategy and in particular work in electrification. A passage anyway compulsory if it wants to remain on the European market. At a conference organized last week, the manufacturer also said a little more about his ambitions.

In a press release, Toyota announces the launch of no less than Ten 100 % electric cars from 2026. For the time being, the French range has only one, namely the BZ4X, whose beginnings were somewhat chaotic due to a concern linked to the wheels. But that’s not all. Because in addition to marketing new models, The manufacturer also wants to improve their characteristics.

He says he wants to double the autonomy of his electric cars. For the record, the Toyota BZ4X can travel no less than 450 kilometers in a single load depending on the WLTP cycle. A value that varies depending on the temperature, especially since the SUV may not be recharged when it is too cold. To achieve this objective of autonomy, which is not necessarily essential, the firm will in particular offer new batteries.

These will therefore be more effective, without the manufacturer no longer giving any details. Perhaps the engineers will draw their inspiration from the design of the Tesla Model Y, which they had already described as a work of art a few weeks earlier. Thus, future toyota could exceed 800 kilometers WLTP.

More than a million electric cars

The Japanese firm, which thinks that hybrid cars only pollute barely more than electric plans to put no less than 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles (exhaust) on roads. An ambitious goal, while The BZ4X is not yet delivered to us and that the sales figures are not brilliant in the rest of the world.

Hopefully the price drop operated by the brand in response to Tesla helps find new customers, while waiting for the arrival of new electric models. For the record, Toyota recently unveiled its BZ3 sedan and its Hilux Révo Bev pickup, which are not currently intended for the European market. As reminded Automobile Magazine, The firm also plans to launch a large seven -seat SUV, KIA EV9 rival.

In order to optimize costs, and thus increase margins and reduce the price of its cars, Toyota will review its development strategy. A single set will be responsible for the entire design of electric cars, from the first sketches to marketing. This should also make it possible to guarantee a more effective process, because centralized in the same place and in the same team.

Finally, the manufacturer also works on the development ofA new interface called Arene. This will equip the next models in the range and will improve their connectivity by making them in particular compatible with the updates remotely.

Toyota finally launches a 100 % electric car, the BZ4X

The Japanese manufacturer presented this week a SUV called “BZ4X”, this week, the first model of its sub-brand dedicated to purely electric vehicles. It targets a record share of the old continent in 2022.

Sure of its technology, Toyota announces a guarantee of a million kilometers on the battery of its new SUV

Posted on 2 Dec. 2021 at 3:00 p.m. Updated on 2 Dec 2. 2021 at 5:00 p.m

It looked like an anomaly. Pioneer and undisputed champion of hybrid engines, Toyota had so far refrained from launching a 100 % electric car in Europe, in reverse of the eagerness manifested for two years by his competitors to occupy this segment. The world champion in the sector will finally embark on the arena in 2022, with an enhancement of a large -scale offensive.

Presented for the first time to the European press this week, the new model was baptized very little poetically “BZ4X”. The acronym Bz (for “Beyond Zero”, reference to the lack of CO emission2) must become a “sub-brand” which will signal the entirely electric vehicles of the brand. “At least seven other models will follow” in the coming years, explains Matt Harrison, CEO of Toyota Motor Europe, even if not all will be sold in Europe. Capable of achieving the objectives in terms of CO emissions control2 Fixed by Europe thanks to the weight of its hybrid sales, the Japanese giant had, it is true, less than its competitors the need to quickly launch 100 % electric vehicles.

“Good timing”

Despite this late arrival, the Japanese brand challenges any hesitation on the subject. “The question has never been whether we were going to launch a 100 % electric vehicle, but when we were going to do,” says Andrea Carlucci, marketing director for the old continent. We think that today is the right timing. »»

The supply difficulties that have hindered production for months (notably the shortage of semiconductors) have nevertheless forced certain manufacturers to postpone the launch of new models . But according to Matt Harrison, these difficulties will have disappeared after the first quarter of 2022, at Toyota in any case.

The brand does not present this first BZ as a try. “We have 25 years of experience in electrification,” said the Europe boss referring to the 20 million hybrid cars sold by Toyota in the world, even if their batteries were much smaller size. The new SUV will have an autonomy of 450 kilometers, and can be recharged 80 % in around thirty minutes. A sign of Toyota’s confidence in its technological expertise, the BZ4X battery will be guaranteed for a million kilometers, as long as the customer accepts a control visit each year in a Toyota center.

Photovoltaic roof

A roof equipped with photovoltaic cells, optional, will allow the slightest radius of sunshine to make small refills, which could represent up to 1.800 kilometers of driving over a year depending on the brand. Among other innovations, the possibility of parking your vehicle by following the maneuver from the outside on your smartphone, or a new direction requiring much less amplitude in the steering wheel movement.

The Toyota group counts on this model to amplify its excellent commercial dynamics. It is expected to sell 1.07 million vehicles this year in Europe (including utility vehicles), with a record share of 6.3 %. For 2022, with the end of supply difficulties, it is aims no less than 1.3 million cars sold and 6.5 % market share. Pulled by the excellent sales of the Yaris and the new Yaris Cross (two models manufactured in France, near Valenciennes), the manufacturer already has a record order book, equivalent to four months of production.
