Armony Trekking Viareggio test: an amazing Italian electric bike

The sensor in the crankset has its effect: we find the sensations of a Bosch engine, always ready to draw a good acceleration on this type of heavy equipment. We may regret that the pressure sensor is too much … pressing. Press the stop pedal a little too much and the engine will start its rotation. We quickly take the reflex to have a brake always tightened when stopping.

Armony Trekking Viareggio test: an amazing Italian electric bike

Armony Viareggio: the Italian bicycle that shades the giants

Armony Bikes is an Italian company that markets in France a wide range of electric bikes. We have tested the Viareggio trekking for a good reason: its components clearly leave the market standards and its price is very aggressive compared to its services.

No one will blame you if you don’t know Armony Bikes. The Italian manufacturer has produced bikes for 15 years, but has only been present in French territory for 2 years. His marketing argument ? Make bikes cheaper than others, in the ranges where the manufacturer is present. The viareggio trekking that we are testing is a typical VTC bicycle, with a field of use that can take its users of a ride on paths to the bitumen of cities of cities.

It is therefore a versatile model that we would compete with the X-Road range of Mustache (from € 2,800 fully equipped) or the pathlite range: On de Canyon (from € 2,500 without any equipment). Armony sells its well-equipped € 2,600 trekking at € 2,600 (headlights, boute racks, luggage rack, doorbell-.

And we must really go beyond these small disappointments, because the Viareggio trekking by Armony Bikes is really a surprising bike. For example, the Italian company did not trust one of the motorization giants like Bosch to equip its bike, but turned to Oli. The Oli Move more than 250 W engine for 80 Nm is in the crankset and is equipped with pressure sensors which allow the bike to be very reactive when it is asked to start with a pedal stroke. The manufacturer claims up to 400 % of muscle power in the most energetic mode of the 5. We are not going to lie, the difference between modes 2, 3 and 4 is tiny for use and we are most often in mode 5 to have a fun bike under the feet.

The electronics is completed by a very visible color display, even in the sun, which displays very relevant information. In addition to the speed, we find the time, the distance traveled (with rigorous precision when we compare it in the journey on Google Maps), the percentage of battery remaining or the outside temperature. The headlights have a well thought out automatic mode which will light them on its own as soon as the night falls. You can force ignition at a pressure.

On the battery side, there is a Samsung battery of 504 Wh, which promises up to 120 km of maximum autonomy (in eco mode that we do not use much). Its attachment system is extremely intuitive and the battery is lodged in the context in a jiffy. With its 3 kg, you are not going to take it everywhere with you, but it is still largely maneuverable for a battery of this capacity.

On the mechanical side, there is very standard in the entry-level electric range: Tektro hydraulic disc brakes (160 mm), 9-speed S-Ride transmission (a little light for this type of dynamic bicycle), suspended fork, 28 wheels 28 inches of Italian making on which are mounted typical tires all paths. Overall, the components are homogeneous: nothing makes us jump on these bicycle ranges that do not seek lightness at all costs. Just we find the controller of speeds not very satisfactory for use, with its big clacks and its plastic touch which hardly inspires confidence.

On the road with the Armony Trekking Viareggio

But it is by riding that viareggio manages to convince best. The Oli engine is for example an excellent surprise. Its couple is generous and it allows you to go up to 25 km/h without the slightest effort on the flat roads or the fake standing dishes. In a more abrupt climb, he also holds the high dragee, with speeds up to 20 km/h on our benchmark tracks – it’s similar to the Bosch Performance. The bike is very dynamic in general and we appreciate that the engine has excellent linearity: we feel accompanied from the first km/h and until the last regulatory.

The driving is exhilarating and the position, between comfort and the sportsman, makes it possible to alternate quiet moments and swerms. The suspended fork plays its role as it can, even if, it must be recognized, the bike transmits vibrations well in its right handlebars. The absence of comfortable handles is perhaps for something: Armony delivers his Viareggio with very rigid straight handles which will be changed or amortized by gloves very quickly.

Autonomy is the second good surprise of this viareggio. Our benchmarks have shown us that it consumed 10 % battery for 7 km, which gives it a theoretical autonomy of 70 km – with mainly mode 5 used, in other words the most powerful. Theoretical, because depending on your weight and the conditions of use, Armony estimates that this value can drop to 40 km away. It is quite rare that we have higher figures on real use than a manufacturer announces: we have found it important to note it.

The rest of the bike does not shine, but responds to its specifications: give sensations that are most often found on bikes sometimes sold 3,000 €. The illusion is perfect, even if we can always understand why Armony is capable of offering this bike at this price: luggage rack, headlights and speed joysticks are not mid-range models as on other bikes of this type. These concessions on the accessory allow the company to focus on the essentials: engine, battery, frame, tires, brakes.

We come out of these tens of kilometers on viareggio by being convinced that this model will not redefine cycling assisted by electric motor, but that it offers a coherent and very serious option to which would not have the budget for Bosch equipment mounted On a bike of the same range. In short, concessions allow you to have the sensations of a performance range, below the price and with a perfectly accessorized bike.
