The restyled Polestar 2 arrives: will we finally be entitled to France

Polestar and France, it’s a story, let’s say, complicated. Since 2019, a conflict opposed him to Citroën, the tricolor manufacturer accusing the Swedish brand his logo recalling too much according to her chevrons. But, that’s it, both managed to find an agreement at the end of last year. So, of course, because the former Volvo sports department has just presented a reviewed and corrected version of its sedan 2, we say that the latter could well (finally !) Land over our territory. Several clues, including one hidden in the press release from the restyled Polestar 2 which it has just revealed, suggest that this could well be the case.

Volvo and Polestar: “We are us and they are them” Dixit Yves Pasquier-Desvignes

Volvo and Polestar:

While the Polestar brand should soon be launched in France, Yves Pasquier-Desvignes, president of Volvo Cars France, recognizes that this will create an unprecedented situation of competition. While understanding the strategic motivations of the Geely group.

The legal problem between Polestar to Citroën having found a way out, the way is now free for the introduction of the Sino-Suédoise brand in France. No specific date has been set, because the group’s management must deal with the problems of shortage which hamper the production. But this is only a question of month.

Polestar can make Volvo suffer

Yves Pasquier-Desvignes, President of Volvo Cars France, expects this new unprecedented situation for its brand and recognizes that there will be direct competition: “” Depending on the models and range levels, Polestar will enter the round of our competitors that are already Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Porsche with the Cayenne. Competition that is generally strengthened, because it will also be necessary to count with LOTUS »». In his eyes, it is “” A competitor who can make Volvo suffer, yes »». This is already the case in Spain, for example, where Polestar, directed by Stéphane Le Guével, succeeded and its launch and has just opened a new showroom in Madrid after Barcelona. Concessions designed as connected art galleries, and called “Polestar Spaces”.

Volvo dealers will have priority to distribute Polestar in France

3, 2, 1… Successful launch for Polestar

In 2022, thanks to a last quarter of very good quality, Polestar has exceeded its initial objective of 50 000 sales, carried by the success of the Polestar 2 model. In 2023, the brand tables a growth of 60 % to reach the course of 80,000 sales by benefiting from SUV POLESTAR 3, particularly well born, as cousin of… Volvo Ex90 ! The short -term product plan is dense and coherent, with A Polestar coupe SUV 4 In tune with the times and the future flagship Polestar 5 in “missile mode” with a double engine for a total of 884 hp and 900 Nm. Enough to hunt in the very high -end lands. In Europe, Polestar already operates in many countries : in Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and in Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway and Sweden).

The restyled Polestar 2 arrives: will we finally be entitled to France ?

Because it is the end of stories with Citroën, it may well be that the Polestar 2 revised and corrected makes its entry into our territory.

Reasons to believe it

Well, quite logically, there is the fact that the quarrel is over, we just said, but that’s not all. Since it had exploded, the Polestar sites were simply inaccessible from France. We say well “were” because we can now access the product site again but also that dedicated to the press. It necessarily means that the disagreement has passed. Finally, last detail, it is specified in the press release mentioned above that “the poestar year model 2024 is available for order now on Polestar.com in European markets and that other markets will follow “. An asterisk allows you to know the countries concerned: Italy and Ireland. But it is not excluded that France will be concerned in the future. After all, Polestar is still expanding, the proof.

An almost inchanged look

But let’s come to the “2” sedan which is still the main subject of said publication. What changes ? Design, not really. Same light signatures, same shields at the front and back, nothing changes outside, if not the now full grille which recalls the SUV “3” a little. We imagine that we can say just as much about the cabin since the manufacturer has not even bothered to share the slightest illustration.

Up to 635 km of autonomy

In fact, developments are essentially technical. The Polestar 2 wants to be more powerful, more efficient and with better autonomy. Another major development, the two -wheel drive models are now propulsions. These are equipped with a single 200 kW or 220 kW engine (approximately 271 hp and 300 hp) and 490 Nm of torque (against 330 nm previously). The least powerful benefits from a 69 kWh battery (no evolution), the second of 82 kWh (5 kWh more). In both cases, the autonomy is increasing: 518 km for the 200 kW version, and downright 635 km for the 220 kW.
As for the full variant, it benefits from two engines delivering a total of 310 kW (little-prère 421 hp) and 740 Nm of torque (10 kW and 80 nm more). The performance is obviously excellent. Count only 4.5 s to carry out the exercise from 0 to 100 km/h with the 4 -wheel drive against 6.4 s and 6.2 s for the first . A performance pack allows you to bring the power to 350 kW (475 hp) on the latter. With him, time goes down to 4.2 s. In both cases, the big 82 kWh battery is used. They could both travel 592 km on a single load. Maximum load speed of 135 kW for the 2 -wheel drive version 69 kWh and 205 kW for others. Attractive characteristics but which have a price: between € 50,190 and € 64,690 in Germany. If Polestar wants to cause Tesla Model 3 wrong on our market (if it comes of course !), we will have to review the prices a bit downwards.
