Nissan micra electric: what is known about future city car

Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi decided to launch alliance 2030, a roadmap for the electrification of the three brands. For this, it is an offensive of 35 new models that the alliance provides, via its leader-follower plan allowing 40 % of savings.

Within this 23 billion euros program, Nissan will launch a brand new version of the Micra, an electric city car.

An electric Renault 5 cousin

Like the electric Renault 5, the future electric micra will rest on the CMF-BEV platform. Thus, it is not surprising to find, on the first illustrations, many common features with the future city car of Renault. The profile, line and size seem similar.

An electric micra “made in France”

The alliance specifies that Nissan will take care of the design of the Micra, but that Renault will develop it and make it. Like its diamond cousin, it is in the Douai factory (North) that the electric micra will be created.

Thanks to this, the Nissan Micra should offer 400 kilometers of autonomy in WLTP cycle. And like the platform and the R5, the new electric micra will arrive by 2024.

Expected for 2026, the next Nissan Micra will give priority to the famous Renault 5 electric. But she intends to go as far as the latter in the register of originality.

The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance is not dead, even if it will now leave more distance between the French and the Japanese. This week, the bosses of Renault and Nissan have given details as to the projects provided for in common by the two groups. Already announced at the beginning of 2022 by Nissan, the development of a whole new generation of the Citadine Micra was officially confirmed on this occasion. While the current micra shares its underwear with the Renault Clio, the next version will do the same with the future Renault 5. She will therefore become 100% electric like the latter but will arrive a little later than the Frenchwoman: while Renault tables a launch in 2024 of her new city car for zero issues, her Japanese sister will arrive in 2026.

The Renault 5 promises to be daring in terms of design but if Nissan respects the spirit of the first images shown last year, the next Micra will not have to be ashamed of the comparison. His style could even echo at the time when Micra was one of the funniest city dwellers, between the 90s (generation K11) and the 2000s (generation K12). It will obviously resume the chassis and the engines of the electric R5 (with 80% of common parts), which will allow Nissan to achieve substantial savings.

A French Nissan Micra

Note that this future nissan micra electric will be manufactured in France at the Douai factory, where the Renault 5 will also be assembled. The current generation was in any case already built with us in Flins. And why not another electric nissan based on the next Renault 4 ? For the moment, there is nothing like this in pipes even if Renault and Nissan will collaborate on other electrical projects. Let us add that in view of the current Mitsubishi strategy, it is likely that an electric city car is also on the brand of the diamond brand.
