Use 5G with your iPhone

iPhone 12 and subsequent models work with 5G cellular networks of certain operators. Find out how to use the 5G cellular service.

What you need

  • iPhone 12 or a subsequent model
  • An operator who deployed a 5G network
  • A 5G 1 cell package

If your new iPhone is delivered with a physical sim card or digital esim, use it. Otherwise, use the SIM card of your old iPhone. In some cases, you will have to contact your operator to configure the SIM card of your old iPhone and be able to use a 5G network.

Understand 5g icons in the status bar

When you are in a 5G zone covered by your operator and your 5G package is activated, you will see a 5G icon in the status bar of your iPhone:

5G: 5G status bar icon

The 5G network of your operator is accessible, and your iPhone can connect to the Internet through this network (not accessible in all countries or all regions). 2 .

The 5G+, 5G UW or 5G UC network is accessible. This may include the 5G version at higher frequency of your operator. Your iPhone can connect to the Internet through this network (not accessible in all countries or all regions). 2

Learn more about 5G options

The default 5G settings of the iPhone optimize the battery life and the use of data according to your data package. You can customize these options to choose when to use 5G and to set a data use ceiling for certain apps. Contact your operator to find out if it supports 5G and if you have a cellular subscription supporting 5G.

You will find these options in settings> cellular network> Options or in settings> Mobile data> Options. If you use the double SIM, access settings> Cellular network or settings> Mobile data, then choose the number you want to modify these options.

Choose how your iPhone uses the 5G network. These choices can have an impact on battery life.

  • 5g auto. : Active the smart data mode. When 5G speed significantly improves the user experience, your iPhone automatically switches to LTE to ensure battery life. The 5G icon is displayed according to the configuration of the operator’s network and, in rare cases, can be displayed even when 5G coverage is not available.
  • 5G activated: systematically uses the 5G network as soon as it is available. This could reduce battery life.
  • LTE: Use only the LTE network, even when the 5G network is available.

Additional settings such as autonomous 5G and autonomous 5G voice may be available in your country. For more information, contact your network supplier.

Apple makes its iPhone 12 compatible with 5G

With the deployment of iOS 14.3, Apple also launches the 5G update on its latest iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. These can now take advantage of Orange, SFR, Bouygues and Free networks.

    L

While 5G was gradually launched in France, if you had bought one of the last iPhone 12 to take advantage of it, you did not see the small 5G logo appear on the screen until then. And for good reason, Apple had not opened “its network” to the ultra -fast connection.

It’s now done. With deployment since Monday of the iOS 14 update.3, the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are now compatible with the entire 5G French network.

Because the iOS 14 update.3, with its multiple additions, including the famous Apple Proraw format, includes an operator update 45.1 which concerns all actors (Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and now Free).

To take advantage of 5G on your iPhone 12, you must have an up -to -date device or go to settings/general/software update. If the operator update is not automatically done, go to the settings of the settings to trigger it.

I am already in 5g in a good part of my city, so good for some there is already a real interest

Completely agree, I am not the type to change every year either. I just made a remark for those who were scandalous. It’s like wanting to buy a 16K TV today to anticipate the next show consoles. The current TV will have already lived well and will have time to be replaced while the 16K is democratized.

We don’t have to change your mobile every 3 years;)

And all those who shouted last year because the iPhone 11 was not 5G compatible. The time we have a real network, there will already be the iPhone 14
