To find differences, there will be a job. Indeed, these smartphones have a similar technical sheet. Same screen size (6.1 inches), same definition (1,792 x 828 px), same weight (194 g), same dimensions (150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm). In short, the list is long. It’s a fact, the iPhone 11 and the iPhone XR are twins.

However, what is true for the face of the device is no longer back. Major change: the appearance of a second photo sensor on the iPhone 11. An ultra-angle to be precise, as on the iPhone 11 pro and 11 pro max. Suddenly, we end up with a square island in polished glass. A way to distinguish the two products between them. Another differentiating detail, the Apple Crunchy Apple logo is now placed in the middle of the phone and the mention iPhone disappears.

Other differences are hidden under the hood, but not striking enough to decide between the two smartphones on this part devoted to ergonomics and design. The iPhone 11 benefits for example from an IP68 standard where the iPhone XR is only certified in IP67 standard.

Screen: Equality

The iPhone 11 has a slightly calibrated slab like that of its predecessor. Even if the size and the screen definition do not change an iota, it must be recognized that Apple has managed to improve the maximum brightness of its IPS screen. 646 cd/m² against 630 cd/m² to be exact. Which allows excellent reading in strong light in both cases.

In terms of colorimetry, the iPhone 11 is also doing better with a Delta E measured at 1.7 (against 2 on the iPhone XR). The image talks about itself and is little exposed and there is a lot of digital noise.

Autonomy: Equalite

Technically, the iPhone 11 held under our test for 13 h 27 min while the iPhone XR held 13 h 21 min. A difference not significant enough to declare one or the other winner. The two terminals are therefore able to last 2 days in standard use, and a day and a half in intensive use. Not bad, even if we would have liked a little better on the side of the last born which has a slightly larger battery (3,110 mAh against 2,972 mAh).

Verdict: iPhone 11

Logically, the iPhone 11 wins this duel. His best performances and photos allow him to win against the iPhone XR. But the latter is not to forget. If you don’t have to do a second ultra-wide-angle sensor, then there remains an excellent choice, especially after its price drop since the release of model 11.
