Samsung galaxy book3 pro 360 laptop pc test: a convertible that checks all boxes

The Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 is a 16 -inch convertible with a 13th generation Intel processor. It is mainly distinguished by its AMOLED 3K tactile slab and its measurements worthy of a featherweight category.

Presentation

Samsung returns in 2023 with a whole new range of Galaxy Book, including the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360. This convertible rose seriously and erases the main defect alleged against its elder: its screen. The 15.6 inch AMOLED panel which displayed 1920×1080 px at 60 Hz is replaced by a 16 -inch slab of the same technology, but endowed with 2880×1800 px and a variable refreshment of 60 to 120 Hz.
Samsung took the opportunity to go to the 13th generation of Intel processors and to increase battery capacity.
Obviously, the price evolves accordingly, going from € 1699 to € 2199; An addition to say the least salty. Let’s see if the additional cost is justified.

Construction

The Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 keeps its alloy chassis, available in anthracite color and sand. No frills at Samsung, a simple shiny black logo sits on the hood, whose matt covering retains little finger fingerprints.

The opening of the hood reveals the touch screen, and therefore shiny. Like any good convertible, the screen turns 360 °. This allows different uses, from “tent” orientation to “tablet” mode, including use with keyboard facing the table and screen facing you: ideal for watching videos in a limited space. However, the keyboard is not equipped with skates, which can cause scratches on the piano and keys. The Galaxy Book3Pro 360 is also supplied with the Samsung stylus allowing to take notes.

The backlit keyboard offers a comfortable strike despite its ultra -flat keys. The start -up button is located at the top right and has a fingerprint reader.
The touchpad is simply huge (15.2 x 10.7 cm) and 40 % larger than that of the Book2 Pro 360. Sliding is fluid and all Windows gestures are perfectly taken into account.

Connectors includes the latest technologies of the moment, with two Thunderbolt 4 ports which are also used for the laptop PC, an HDMI 2 port.1, a USB3 port.0 and a microSD location; a varied connection which should meet the vast majority of expectations. In our case, we would have preferred an SD location to the microSD, to quickly transfer our shots.

The wireless part uses the Intel AX211 chip which supports 6th WiFi at 2400 MB/s and Bluetooth. We will have to wait for the books to see the wifi 7 arrive. Samsung has made an effort on the webcam with a 1080p sensor and Windows Hello compatibility. However, the quality of this Full HD sensor is relatively low. The lack of details, even in optimal conditions, and is particularly rough in the darkness.

Cooling is ensured by two large caps, two fans and two radiators; What easily cool the Core i7 P (28 W). Under the thermal camera, the keyboard is held under 40 ° C, with a hot area centered on the keyboard and which corresponds to the placement of the processor.
By pushing the processor in its entrenchments, the ventilation system is triggered and reaches 37 dB on our soundometer. A breath of breath is therefore audible, but it remains contained and will not disturb your office neighbors.

Access to the components is easy. Just remove only four cruciform screws. But the interest of the operation is more than limited: the only two removable components are the SSD and the battery. WiFi, memory and obviously the processor are welded. Samsung, for its part, declares a repairability index of 8.6/10.

Performance

The Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 made available to us by Samsung has an Intel Core i7-1360p processor accompanied by 16 GB of DDR5 and an SSD of 1 to. The 13th generation Core i7 has 4 hyperthredes and 8 e-cores, a total of 16 threads up to 5 GHz when the conditions allow it.

The Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 and its Core i7-1360p obtain a performance index of 121, placing it between the Core i7-1260p all at ease in the Matebook X Pro of Huawei (124) and the Ryzen 7 6800U of the Acer Swift Edge (117). It must be said that the i7-1360p is a bit cramped within 12.8 mm thick of its chassis. Note that Huawei’s MateBook X Pro offers the best integration of the Core i7-1260p among the laboos passed by our lab.

During our encoding, the Core i7-1360p maintained its c cores at an average of 2.22 GHz and the hearts E at 1.66 GHz. The power envelope, on the other hand, is on average 22 watts on this exercise.

The 512 GB SSD reaches 6.8 GB/S reading and 4.9 GB/s in writing. Transfers of large files will therefore be a formality for him, and the launch of Windows of the Fretin menu.

Finally, a word on the integration of the screen. Samsung has left a large border of almost 2 cm on the lower part of the slab. We have thus calculated an occupation ratio at 83 %; By way of comparison, the LG Gram 16 occupation ratio was 91 %measured, while it boxes in the same category. Samsung therefore enlarged the chassis of the Book2 Pro 360 of 2.5 cm in depth. A choice against the current of other manufacturers who use 16-inch slabs in 15.6-inch frames to reduce the borders.

Audio

Samsung has made some efforts on the audio part of its galaxybook3 pro 360. Always signed AKG, it consists of four Dolby Atmos compatible speakers. They are once again located under the PC, behind long openings. Thus, if you are used to putting your portable pc on a flexible support to enjoy your multimedia content, it will be better to put it in tent mode or in keyboard position down to take advantage of the orientation of the speakers.

Listening, the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 delivers a significant sound volume, with a well -marked stereophony and detailed mediums and treble. On the other hand, the whole still lacks roundness, synonymous with a lack of serious. Samsung has not yet managed to match Apple’s production, which remains a reference on this point.

The mini-jack output offers very good measures. Its diaphony is limited, providing a marked stereo. Dynamics and distortion do not suffer from any defect. However, the output level is a little low and will not be enough to manage high impedance helmets.
