But if you plan to limit expenses, Apple has two alternative models that could suit you: the third generation iPhone SE and the iPhone 12 Mini. Here are the differences between these two phones to know knowingly.

Other technologies

The third generation iPhone SE and the iPhone 12 Mini have a substantially identical autonomy (up to 10 hours in video streaming, 50 hours in audio reading). They are both compatible with fast recharging (50% load in 30 minutes) and they also accept Qi wireless recharge, but only the iPhone 12 Mini incorporates Magsafe magnets. They are both water resistant but the iPhone 12 Mini goes further (IP68, 6 meters deep for 30 minutes) that the iPhone SE (IP67, 1 meter deep for 30 minutes). The front of the iPhone 12 Mini is also more solid with its Ceramic Shield glass absent from the iPhone SE.

In terms of wireless networks, the two phones are compatible with the 4G and 5G networks deployed in France and they support Wi-fi 6 (802.11AX), Bluetooth 5.0 and the NFC, without forgetting the GPS for navigation. The iPhone 12 Mini adds the management of Ultra Wideband (UWB) for ultra-precise geolocation, for example to locate AirTags.

On the other hand, there is a point on which the iPhone goes back to the iPhone 12 Mini: the processor. All recent, the third generation iPhone SE has the A15 Apple chip. Busy but older, the iPhone 12 Mini is satisfied with the A14 Apple chip, less powerful. Very concretely, this has no influence on the reactivity of the phone on a daily basis for the moment. The A15 chip may however stand out in a few years, for the management of new advanced features and future versions of iOS. Apart from the question of the price we are going to approach, this is almost the only argument against the iPhone 12 mini.

Storage and prices

In equal capacity, there is 160 € difference between the iPhone SE and the iPhone 12 Mini. On the online Apple Store, prices start at € 529 for the iPhone SE and € 689 for the iPhone 12 Mini, with each time a surplus of € 50 to go from 64 GB to 128 GB of storage and A new supplement of € 120 to go to 256 GB. The third generation iPhone SE is still recent when we write this article: as such, it is still rarely on promotion.
