iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max: the opinion of those who tested them
Here are some of the first reactions and images of those who tested the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max, including creatives, around the world:
Techcrunch
“The Night mode of the iPhone 11 is great. It works, it is extremely well placed compared to other low light cameras and it is the best of its category in terms of exposure and color rendering. »»
The Verge
“[The iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max] are among the most balanced and most successful phones than Apple, or another brand, has ever created. They have excellent autonomy, processors that should allow them to keep one step in advance for years, absolutely superb screens and a new camera which, in general, surpasses all other phones , and which should further improve with the software update provided for this fall. »»
Mashable
“The narrow integration of the software and hardware of the Apple camera is really what differentiates the camera from the iPhone 11 Pro and allows you to zoom between the three lenses so fluid. »»
Refinery29
“The most interesting novelty is the night mode, which illuminates the dark photos in a fairly impressive way. It is automatically activated in unlit environments. You can even use it as a flashlight. When you run it on a dark area, the screen restores a much brighter image than you can see with your own eyes. »»
Engadget
“And this time, Apple’s offer is even more enticing. With technical improvements, a new camera and a starting price of € 809, you benefit from a better device at a slightly lower price. »»
Tom’s Guide
“The iPhone 11 marks a big step forward for photography, thanks to a new ultra-wide-angle goal and a new night mode for better performance in low light conditions. Apple also set up the bar of a notch with a better quality video recording while maintaining excellent autonomy. »»
Esquire
“For videographers around the world, the three iPhone will allow you to take 4K videos at 60 images per second. The images are clear, of high resolution and incredibly fluid. For mounting tools, Apple allows you to modify, cut and correct the video as if it were a photo. Another very practical feature allows you to go directly from a photo taking scenario to a video taking scenario. »»
CNBC
“These cameras work together to take photos in portrait mode, which I always love to use to take pictures of my dog, Mabel. Many other cameras now offer this feature, but Apple is one of the only brands to reach a conclusive result. »»
GQ UK
“The high -end iPhone has finally arrived. Like the MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro before him, it is the model that will allow much more, much better. »»
9News (Australia)
“I am convinced that for daily use, it is the best smartphone camera on the market. »»
HardWarezone Singapore
“The A13 Bionic chip is not just faster than its competitors, it overlaps them all. »»
New Times New Straits (Malaysia)
“The use of the iPhone camera was already simple and intuitive, with the integration of the A13 Bionic and iOS 13 chip, as well as automatic learning, photography on iPhone continues to ‘improve. »»

IPhone 11 Pro Max test: for its large Apple -format smartphone sees really big
Culminating point of high -end iPhone, the 11 Pro Max succeeds what we thought impossible, being always as beautiful and powerful, but devilishly more autonomous. Apple seems to reach almost perfect balance.

On September 10, for the first time, the iPhone became pro. And these three letters changed the Apple smartphones. They federated the promises made during the keynote in order to improve, to enhance the classic iPhone experience. They brought it to a new level.
Power and ergonomics have long been undeniable strengths of Apple smartphones. Almost flawless benchmarks far beyond the range of iPhone.
In other areas, such as that of photography, the advance of iPhone has grieved over time, even if Apple clearly hadn’t said its last word. Conversely, independently, Apple’s devices have simply never been really able to compete with the competition, not to the point of disqualifying them, but more simply to doubt, to harm their power of attraction.
It is with regard to this capital and these weaknesses that the iPhone 11 Pro Max was redesigned and built. Enough to be pro ?
Towers and attours
This year again, Apple uses the basics of design introduced with the iPhone X in 2017. Briefly, the iPhone 11 Pro Max consists of two glass facades maintained together thanks to a stainless steel reinforcement. Two new features this year, the first, the glass is given to be the most resistant ever used in a smartphone – even if we have unfortunately managed to accidentally scratch its front face. The second, the rear baking sheet of a single piece (which covers as well the back that it sets the objectives of the cameras) is polished in order to offer a matt rendering to the eye and to the touch.
The front facade is not to be outdone since it has the honor of introducing a new generation oled slab, which retains the same definition and the same resolution as the previous generation, namely 2688 × 1242 pixels for 458 pp. On the other hand, Super Retina XDR technology not only provides an exceptional contrast rate of 2000,000: 1 but also an extraordinary brightness. Better, this slab lighting can vary depending on what you do. It will revolve around 800 cd/m² at its maximum for the most common uses. We have thus measured this slab at 798 cd/m², which classifies it as brighter than all those that we have tested recently, with the exception of that of 11 pro which crosses the CAP of 800 CD/m². But that’s not all, the brightness can climb up to 1200 cd/m² when you consult HDR (or Dolby Vision) content. It is thus a good guarantee that your photos or your movies will be the most beautiful as possible.
Note also that the iPhone 11 Pro Max, without doing as well as the iPhone 11 Pro or even the iPhone 11 (and its LCD screen) offers colorimetric fidelity of very high. Its Delta E 2000 is only 2.68. It is slightly less good than for the iPhone XS Max, but remains better than what the Android competition offers.
Let us also specify, concerning this slab that it is more economical in energy, 15% according to Apple.
For the rest, we find the very high quality finish specific to iPhone, the care taken in forms that presides over the pleasure of daily use. The iPhone 11 Pro Max is a very beautiful object for those who like large smartphones.
Especially since, like the 11 pro, it sees its dimensions and its weight slightly increase. A few tenths of millimeters in height, width and thickness which do not really change the grip but allow, among other things, these iPhone 2019 to embark a larger battery.
Autonomy: more than up to height
Thanks to it, the iPhone 11 Pro Max displays an ever seen autonomy for an Apple smartphone. This generation simply crushes that of previous generations.
The progression is such, moreover, that the iPhone 11 Pro Max is systematically better than the best high -end high -end Android smartphones in two of our tests out of three.
Two tests which are in our view the most representative of real uses. The first is our home -so -called versatile house test. It consists in broad outlines to continuously simulate various daily uses: video, surfing, email consultation, etc.
In this context, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is not content to beat the iPhone XS Max and equal its competitors on Android, it sweeps them all.
With a versatile autonomy measured at 7:18 p.m., it outlets the Huawei P30 Pro which is its best competitor in this field among current high -end smartphones on Android smartphones under Android smartphones.
When we are interested in autonomy in video streaming, he reaches 5:03 pm, far ahead of his most serious opponent who is the Samsung Galaxy S10+ which held 13:22 for this same test.
Finally, when we look at autonomy in communication (a continuous telephone call, extinguished screen), we see that certainly it does not obtain the best score, but ranks among the first high -end smartphones, third to be precise , behind the OnePlus 7 and Galaxy Note 10+.
Of course, it is very likely that the next generation of Android smartphones will shake this ranking but these autonomy performances of Apple smartphones are both excellent and to say nothing. No iPhone has ever been able to do so well.
The good news does not stop there. To deserve their “pro” status, the new iPhones are also delivered by Apple with a more powerful charger. The USB-C sector adapter (and its USB-C to Lightning cable) displays 18 W, against 5 W for the iPhone of previous generations, to which is added the unfortunate iPhone 11.
The charging time is logically greatly reduced. Not enough to shake the tenors of the recharging under Android, but enough to get closer to the bulk of the peloton and no longer look completely ridiculous in comparison.
Power avalanche
Especially since the iPhone 11 Pro Max still has an asset in its sleeve, the power of its A13 Bionic chip. Not only is it much more energy efficient (between 30 and 40% depending on that you are interested in high performance or low consumption hearts), but it is also much more powerful.
We had the opportunity to talk about it in a preliminary article, dedicated to our bench results entitled first tests: the iPhone 11 and 11 pro are they really so powerful ? We encourage you to pay you if you want more details.
Nevertheless, to summarize, here is what we can remember.
By comparing the iPhone XS Max and 11 Pro Max, we record, depending on the bench tools used, between 25 and 40% additional performance in favor of the most recent Apple smartphone. The graphic part knows the strongest increase – Antutu 7 grants a score approximately 90% higher to the iPhone 11 Pro Max than in XS Max – and therefore ensures what to see in the long term, both for graphic applications Pro that for video games.
Having tried the iPhone 11 Pro Max with Apple Arcade, there is certainly one of the best mobile play platforms. Not only is the screen wide and comfortable, but the power is there as much as the autonomy. Difficult to ask for more. Obviously, where the iPhone XS were already exemplary in terms of interface fluidity and responsiveness, the iPhone 11 Pro Max continues on the momentum of its elders. And performance gain cannot affect the already excellent experience to which we are used to Apple smartphones. However, it should be indicated that the first versions of iOS 13 which were made available suffered from a few small bugs which have since disappeared for the most part, according to our experience.
The photo: accept its limits, perfect its strengths
Finally comes the last big novelty of these iPhone 11 Pro, the triple camera module. A great first at Apple, but a catch -up with regard to what high -end competition has been practicing Android for several months.
While waiting for our dedicated photo test, we have already had the opportunity to talk about our feelings quite long in our test of the iPhone 11 Pro, which offers the same performances.
However, once again to summarize, it must be recognized that Apple takes a big step forward with the arrival of this ultra large angle (13 mm equivalent), which is added to the two existing modules, Grand-Angle (equivalent 26 mm) and telephoto (52 mm equivalent). However, it does not technically come to equal the configuration of the absolute king in the matter which is the Huawei P30 Pro. The sensors remain at 12 Mpixels when the competition flies with more innovative sensors and offering up to 40 Mpixels – which allows much better reframing, in particular. Similarly, the total optical enlargement ratio stops at X4 (with an X10 digital zoom), where the P30 Pro goes to X8 in optics, approximately.
The camera application interface, with transparency effects and zoom wheel.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max therefore does not offer the best Technical Sicar Côté Photo. This will be felt a little in the management of noise in low light, in the general lack of dive of the clichés and this somewhat amazing impression of the management by flattens, watercolor style, when you zoom in a little too digital or wants to enlarge a detail photo. Nevertheless, not only Apple succeeds in offering pictures which are of very good quality but it does better in our view than Huawei in several fields.
First of all, it ensures a continuity of colors, exposure and the management of almost perfect lights between the different photo modules.
This means that your photos will display close colors and little light variation between an ultra-angle cliché and a photo taken from the telephoto lens in the same framework. At the moment, it is a ride rare enough to be greeted and appreciated. To get there, Apple makes its factories photo modules calibrate at the time of assembly and then software that everything is best respected.
This might seem a detail but it brings even more value to the presence of the ultra grand angle which considerably enriches the possibilities of composition, by avoiding having to back down to photograph a monument or a group of people.
On the left, slightly backlight, the light of public lighting, downgraded night mode. On the right, the same situation with the activated night mode. There are more details in the folds of the curtains. On the other hand, the first plan remains blocked.
We must also salute the night mode, big novelty, eagerly awaited. In this case, Apple walks in Google’s footsteps but does not do as well as Huawei, once again. It must be said that the P30 PRO makes incredible shots in full darkness, even when your eyes see nothing. Here, if you try the experience of absolute black, only the noise will be there.
Nevertheless, under more realistic conditions, in low light, the clichés are exploitable and the rendering respectful of the ambient light. It will sometimes be necessary to play on the exhibition by setting the break time, even if that is not always enough, to save a photo before its shooting. The colors are then rather faithful and the shade of the lights preserved.
Ultimately, the Night mode of the iPhone 11 Pro Max is a nice plus, which will provide artistic and usable photos at the end of the evening, but it is not a miraculous solution.
We will also appreciate the ergonomic discoveries which greatly facilitate daily life. Thus, the idea of having added a transparency effect in telephoto and large-angle to show that it is possible to have a wider framework is a great idea.
And since we are talking about an executive, let’s talk briefly about the capture function outside the frame, which offers the possibility for a photo taken with the telephoto lens or the great angle of cropping the cliché. So if a subject got out of the field at the wrong time you can integrate it by retouching the shooting. How is it possible ? Simply when you have activated this function, which is not by default, for each photo taken, another is saved with the ultra-angle-angle. When you are looking to rework the frame, the second shoot is attached to the first in all transparency by drawing from the image processor and the neural network of the A13 Bionic. This second chance is erased automatically after 30 days. Clever and well thought out.
Likewise, you have to salute the ingenuity of the mode Quick Take, which allows from the photo interface to launch a video by maintaining the trigger pressed. How many times have you missed a memorable moment because you had to activate the video mode and wait for it to activate. It’s now a past.
The video stabilization of iPhone 11 Pro is excellent.
Especially since you would be wrong to deprive yourself of video on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apple smartphones have always been good in this area, but they cross a new course with the 11 pro. Always as well exposed and clear (the fixed focus or follow -up is quite amazing), the videos (up to 4K to 60 images/second) are now incredibly stabilized. The descent of stairs above has been filmed without great precaution and nevertheless offers a fluid rendering without the shadow of chaos. It’s impressive and to say everything, it makes you want to shoot more videos to immortalize all these little moments that form our lives. For those who are more turned towards the front camera, the good news is that it is now equipped with a 12 Mpixel sensor and that it supports the idle at 120 images/seconds. Apple calls this slofies, video selfies in slow motion. We will not rule on the potential of this option, which nevertheless works perfectly and that we must have tried at least once, alone, with family or friends

iPhone 11 Pro Max: This resistance test shows that it is almost indestructible in video
The iPhone 11 Pro Max has just passed into the hands of Jerry Rig Everything for a traditional resistance test. As promised by Apple, the glass of glass that covers the smartphone is particularly solid. The new iPhone takes the assaults of the Youtubeur with the honors.
To start, Jerry Rig Everything tested the resistance of the AMOLED screen, praised by DisplayMate. The slab resists rather well with the blows of the cutter of the videographer. There is therefore little risk that your keys or parts left in your pocket leave traces on the glass. Same bell sound on the side of sensors and speakers housed in the notch. Jerry Rig Everything then test The stainless steel frame. Unlike most high -end smartphone manufacturers, Apple has decided to ignore aluminum. Unsurprisingly, steel is much more robust. The videographer struggles to leave traces using his cutter.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max is almost indestructible: this resistance test proves it
Same observation on the side of the glass back. The blade used by Jerry Rig Everything fails to damage the rear surface of the smartphone. He then tries the experience with a piece of copper. Without success. The glass remains immaculate. On the other hand, a pair of keys or certain coins leaves tiny traces. Nevertheless, The back of the iPhone does not risk anything in the event of normal daily use. On the other hand, we advise you to avoid dropping your iPhone 11 Pro Max on the ground. Despite its solidity, the glass obviously risks cracking.
Glass protection that covers the triple photo sensor shows the same robustness. Fine stripes nevertheless begin to appear during the youtubeur armed with its most sharp cutter. Again, the iPhone obviously risks nothing in the event of normal use. Jerry Rig Everything concludes his video with a bend test. He quickly realizes that The smartphone is impossible to fold with bare hands. “Apple builds solid smartphones” Considers Jerry Rig Everything. The videographer attributes this impressive solidity to the chosen materials, such as steel. In short, the iPhone 11 Pro Max succeeded in this resistance test highly hand.
