Learn more about the Honor 70
The successor to the Honor 50 and 60 has just been revealed at IFA 2022. Soberly called Honor 70, he wants to press on two points: a fine and light design, as well as some photo claims.
We have already tested the Honor 70, but here is a quick overview to get an idea of what the smartphone offers.
Honor: handling is impeccable
To convince you, Honor has put a lot of effort to produce a phone that is both pleasant to the eye and in hand. On the scale, 178 grams. On the table, the small rectangle measures 7.91mm thick. Small novelty compared to the previous range, the edges of its back are slightly curved to further facilitate the grip.
All these efforts would be nothing without a screen worthy of the name. The Honor 70 displays 6.67 inches of diagonal in OLED, enough to benefit from infinite contrasts. The screen will also be very lively on paper, count 120 Hz of refreshment of course, but also a “new technology” which aims to limit the flicker and therefore the eye fatigue that follows.
To do this, Honor deploys a modulation of the pulse width in 1920 Hz. Note also HDR 10+, always good to take for mid -range.
To finish on the design, we note that the photo block loses its strapping and separate its two photo matrices into two distinct blocks, but well aligned. Within them, you will find an IMX 800 sensor on the main module which wants to be larger than most of the market sensors at this price. So he should get out of the night. By his side, the faithful ultra-wide-angle responds present, here with a 122 ° angle. Note that it is he who takes care of the macro mode with an autofocus up to 2.5mm, always a better solution than the sensor dedicated.
Vlog and solo cut in the spotlight
On the front front, in the center, the Honor 70 offers a 32 megapixel sensor. This one will be quite highly highlighted by vlog modes or the possibility of creating a scene with you and what you film in front at the same time.
Small nice novelty: a mode called solo cut allows you to film a scene with up to five people and then produce a second video which automatically refrains vertical on one of the protagonists, all in 1080p.
All this operation, but also all the activities that you can do on your phone will go through a snapdragon 778g plus chip, the same as on a Nothing Phone (1) for example, which had been rather capable. It is powered by 4,800 mAh of battery and a 66W load, allowing to recover 60 % autonomy in 20 minutes.
Interesting detail, Honor explains to us that the cell is not separated in two, unlike what is generally practiced fast. The phone is equipped with a single cell, with a double -loop system allowing theory to better protect it from the heating.
The Honor 70 benefits from Android 12, reworked in the form of Magic Ui 6.1, the Chinese group’s house interface.
Price and availability of Honor 70
The Honor 70 are available from 499 euros for the 8 GB configuration +128. Count 549 euros for the 8 GB +256 version.

The Honor 70 is the new mid -range smartphone from the eponymous brand. He seeks to provide a premium experience to the user for a price revolving around 500 euros. For that, he particularly puts on his design and his photo part. Successful bet ?

Honor 70 at the best price
The Honor brand has taken its independence from Huawei in 2020 and since then, it has experienced a real Renaissance. It struck hard with its latest high -end smartphones, including the Magic4 Pro, but it also focuses on the mid -range market, more profitable. Today, it is a new product at 500 euros that arrives on the market: The Honor 70.

Successor to the Honor 50 (the 60 not being released in France), the Honor 70 seeks to offer A high -end experience at an affordable price. To do this, the firm puts on a design that has nothing to envy to the tenors of the market, on an curved oled screen and especially on a neat photo part.
The 500 -euro smartphones market is more and more disputed lately, with brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Google, Oppo or even Nothing who want. They all try to seduce with innovative and efficient products, and Honor must therefore stand out. In this test, we will ask ourselves what would justify turning to the Honor 70 rather than another and if it is a good smartphone, simply.
Price and availability
The Honor 70 is available on the manufacturer’s website and from partner resellers. It was formalized on September 2, 2022 at IFA. The terminal is what can be vulgarly called a “middle range” product, so revolving around 500 euros. It is marketed in two versions:
- 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage: 549 euros
- 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage: 599 euros
With this price, he attacks flagship products like the northern north 2T or the recent Nothing Phone (1), two excellent smartphones which convinced us and which occupy the same tariff segment.

A technical sheet just for the price
The Honor 70 has an expected technical sheet For this price segment. It is equipped with a 6.67 -inch 120 Hz Oled slab, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778 G+processor, 8 GB of RAM as well as a 4800 mAh battery (66 Watts fast recharge).
Ultra Grand Angle:

Depth:

It is in the photo that the manufacturer wants to put the package. The Honor 70 has three sensors: a principal of 54 megapixels, an ultra wide angle of 50 megapixels as well as a depth sensor of 2 megapixels. Enticing. Finally, note that the smartphone obviously runs on Android 12, but welcomes the Magic Ui 6 overlay.1. This is the first terminal of the market to offer it.
An impeccable design that plays the classic card
It is increasingly difficult to stand out in a market where all smartphones are similar. Some manufacturers, such as Nothing, try the card of originality, while others, like Motorola, sobriety. For its Honor 70, the Chinese brand has chosen to attract the eye in giving a premium appearance to its terminal.
In the first contact, the Honor 70 could go perfectly For an ultra-high range terminal at more than 1000 euros. The brand has not done in half measures with regard to the visual part. We have a glass case either in jade (like our model), or in black or in shiny silver.
This shell is pleasant under the fingers with A soft texture to the touch. Furthermore, she flatters the retina with her reflections changing according to the light. We feel that a big job was done on this visual part. Unfortunately, the phone does not avoid the endless fingerprints and the most maniacs will spend their time cleaning it. We also regret the presence of legal notices at the bottom right which a little spoil the harmony of the whole.
What gives his personality to the product is of course his two enormous photos modules inherited from the Honor 50. Here we have two separate islets, which gives a very visually interesting effect (bad tongues will speak of “cooking plates”).
These two modules still stand out from the hull, which means that the mobile is not at all stable once placed on the back. Damage.
In hand, the Honor 70 impresses with its lightness. He is only 178 grams, Which is little for its size. This makes him very appreciable to handle.
When we look at the technical sheet, we realize that the terminal is not particularly end (7.81 mm thick). However Honor had the good idea to reduce the size of his mobile on the slices, both at the rear hood and the screen level. This gives us this impression of finesse without necessarily cutting over the thickness of the chassis. A proven technique that always works.
Regarding the slices, Honor does in the classic. On the right, we find the usual volume and ignition buttons. The lower range, as on almost all products on the market, have a USB type-C port, a SIM port and a speaker. The Honor 70 does not have a Jack port, Which no longer shocks in 2022.
The screen part challenges by its very curved curved curved. It’s a lot, more than other products of the genre. It really gives a premium side to the terminal. We like it or we don’t like it, but for our part, we are rather customers of this kind of design.
The screen/facade ratio is very high, more than 90%. The 32 megapixel front APN is materialized in the form of a punch in the center.
THE fingerprint sensor is located under the slab. If it is a little low to our taste (you have to go get it with your thumb), it is formidable in use. We did not know any failure during our test week. It can couple with an effective facial recognition tool.
Finally, note that Honor provides a flexible plastic shell in the box. If it is not really aesthetic, it has the merit of protecting the terminal from possible shocks and scratches.
To summarize, the Chinese firm offers us a beautiful Honor 70, pleasant in hand and above all chic. With an impeccable finish, The smartphone has absolutely no need to be ashamed in the face of premium terminals with regard to design. Very beautiful work. However, we could regret that everything is lacking a bit of personality. Honor did everything to give an ultra high -end aspect to his product, but without bringing him a dose of originality. A bit of a shame, even if it doesn’t take anything away from him.
A surprising OLED screen
The Honor 70 has a 6.67 -inch OLED slab with a definition of 2400 x 1080 pixels. It adopts a dynamic cooling rate of 120 Hz, Which means that it adapts to the content diffused in order to preserve the battery. Interestingly, Honor offers three refreshing modes: 120 Hz adaptive, 60 Hz, but also 120 Hz absolute, which is unusual.
As we have said, the big peculiarity of this slab lies in its very curved edges (58 degrees, as a reminder). This can slightly hinder vision When reading, but nothing dramatic. In hand, this curvature contributes to giving an impression of “length” to the display, while the terminal adopts a 20: 9 classic format.
In the settings, we notice other interesting little things, such as an intelligent resolution that adapts according to the content as well as an ebook mode. The latter reduces the contrast and passes the image in black and white in order to get closer to what an e-ink screen offers (common on readers). It is ideal for reading without getting your eyes off.
We have of course analyzed the slab with our probe. Oled obliges, we have an infinite contrast, which is particularly appreciable in play or in video viewing. The maximum brightness leaves something to be desired, since it amounts to 450 cd/m². It’s very fair for good readability outside. Damage.
The Honor 70 offers two color profiles: “normal” and “vives”. Live mode (default) is not really convincing. We measured a very high temperature at 7700K (much above the 6500K video standard). This means that on a white display, the slab draws a lot towards blue. Respect for colors is not there either, despite a deceptive medium delta e at 2.9 (below 3 being good). Indeed, we notice blues, greens and purple purples, while for the rest of the colors, fidelity is there. Natural mode, however, testifies to a neat calibration. We have faithful colors (Delta E at 1.9) as well as a perfect temperature (6500k). In short, it is this mode that will have to choose for a better experience.
Sound side, the result is less convincing. The Honor 70 has a single speaker located on its lower edge. The sound he gives off clearly lacks balance, the low mediums being completely absent. This means that listening to podcast, we have deformed stamps of voice. In addition to that, there is a nasty distortion as well as a remarkable absence of stereo. In fact, the Honor 70 has of the same audio quality as an old tired radio. Ouch.
A smartphone with limited power, but sufficient to play
The Honor 70 is equipped of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G processor +, A SOC that we have already had the opportunity to test on the Edge 30 motorcycle as well as on the Nothing Phone (1). We have the new flagship processor of the mid -range market.
We obviously passed the Honor 70 on the grill and our benchmarks coincide with competing smartphones. We note all the same that the scores displayed are a bit below that those of Nothing Phone (1), something that can be charged to the manufacturer’s overlay, more delicious. In fact, we have a fluid experience in everyday life, provided we do not leave thirty-six applications open at the same time. During our test week, we did not see any hooks or untimely planting.
At stake, we have An unbalanced experience. On a gourmet title like Diablo Immortal which does not tolerate any jerk, the phone remains fluid at 60 frames per second with the graphics set in the Middle. If we compare it to the Nothing Phone (1), it’s much better ! Honor has indeed made the decision not to restrict the SoC during the gaming sessions, but this is not without consequences: under these conditions, the smartphone heats very quickly and very strong, to the point of becoming unpleasant under the fingers. Heat management not really suitable but that the user can counter by lowering the level of graphics.
A very busy overlay, even clogged
The Honor 70 is equipped of Android 12 with the Magic Ui 6 overlay.1. It is even the brand’s first smartphone to welcome it natively. This overlay is not really indifferent: we love it or we hate it. Unfortunately for Honor, your servant is part of the second category. We can already recognize several qualities for him, such as personalization to the smallest detail, a very special care given to the design, the possibility of easily doing multitasking or adding some very nice features such as exclusive widgets or the bar lateral. Some Honor choices can also be subject to debate. For example, the overlay does not offer an application drawer and it will be necessary to store them on the desktop (or in special files).
On the other hand, we regret an arrangement often unnecessarily cluttered, Whether in parameters or certain menus, such as the shortcut bar overloaded with icons (default). What annoys the most are the preinstalled applications. There are a dozen ! This involves Honor software that most users will never open (My Honor, Tips, Honor Club, Honor store) to the duplicates of the Google App (contacts, agenda, calculator). To this must be added to that Tas Apps present at the first start, whether Booking, Tik Tok, TrainPal, Facebook or even games. Most can be uninstalled, but it is always annoying to see this kind of unwanted software taking up space unnecessarily in our phone.
In short, here we have an overlay that has arguments, But too busy to convince. It will not risk seducing followers of simplicity, but it is above all a question of tastes.
Top autonomy
The Honor 70 has a 4800 mAh battery, which promises correct autonomy. Coupled with an inexpensive Snapdragon 778G+ as well as an optimized overlay, the terminal succeeds in convincing us on this part. Indeed, during our test week, we found a battery that manages to hold the pace. In “classic” use (a little social network, internet, email, navigation, GPS and play), we measured a level between 50 and 60% in the evening at the time of bedtime. It’s excellent ! Note that gaming will not “too much “Melt the battery, given the optimization of the overlay. On the other hand, the resources requested by the IA treatment will help to make it drop quickly, whether in photo or video.
The Honor 70 is compatible with the 66 Watts fast recharging. Rare enough to be reported: The compatible charger is provided in the box. We have measured a realiation of 1 to 60% in 20 minutes. To fully recharge its terminal, it takes 45 minutes. This is not the most efficient recharge on the market, but it is definitely correct for this segment.
Honor made a daring choice for his battery. Instead of opting for double -cell technology, as does the competition, The manufacturer remains on a single cell, While promising us that the battery will not deteriorate over time. It will be necessary to believe it, given that it takes several months before seeing the effects of the fast charge on autonomy.
A camera that focuses on its many features
The Honor 70 has a photo module made up of three sensors: A principal of 54 megapixels (f/1.9), an ultra wide angle of 50 megapixels (f/2.2) as well as a depth sensor of 2 megapixels which works at the same time as the other two to improve the image.
The Honor 70 is worthy of its segment, but does not make sparks either if we compare it to the competition. Exterior photos offer a good dive and a globally correct image, but we regret a certain imbalance in contrasts when the light is missing. This is a defect that we find on many terminals of this price. We also note colors sometimes too exposed, which gives them an “artificial” air. This is the software processing that must be pointed out here.
We appreciate The care taken in the wide angle sensor, that. The digital zoom is of good quality, giving acceptable results in X2 zoom, even in X10.
It is in the macro part that the Honor 70 reveals its true nature. The smartphone does wonders, especially when activated the dedicated mode in the options. The menu also offers an opening mode that allows you to manage blurring (especially in close -up) in a simple way.
The sensor also has the quality of being very responsive, which is ideal for taking subjects constantly in motion, like cats. Another quality, it manages rather well on the clichés to counter day.
The presence of a portrait mode which allows you to treat its appearance in real time is also appreciable for those who like to make selfies or to stage. Finally, Night mode is an act of presence. If we notice a slight improvement in lighting when activated, you really have to fold your eyes to see the difference.
It’s at the level of the video that Honor put the package with his 70. The phone can certainly record an image in 4K 30FPS, but it is in the features that the manufacturer wants to stand out, as again a real -time embellishment (perfect for Instagram). There is also a double video mode where front and selfie cameras are used simultaneously, which will appeal to the vloggers. As for Solo Cut mode, it allows a video with several protagonists – to isolate one in a separate video. It’s a bit of a gadget and it will probably be used on very rare occasions, but we salute the technical feat.
Honor delivers a good photo part, but in terms of pure quality, we are at the same level as many competitors. Here, The most lies in the amount of options offered, which contrasts with certain manufacturers on the same segment which aim for simplicity. We think of Nothing. If we were to choose, we would still put the Galaxy A53 or the Moto Edge 30 a bit above this part.
