It was too good to be true. The American giant Google, which offers a powerful and free online online photo storage service, will reduce the sail from June 2021. No more unlimited backup capabilities, users will soon have to subscribe to a paid offer from Google One to continue using the service. For Internet users, this is also an opportunity to look at what is done elsewhere.

Even if Google has decided to make its “photos” application paid, the latter remains one of the most accessible on the market. The Silicon Valley firm will continue to offer free access for Internet users who save less than 15 GB of data. Beyond that, it will be necessary to subscribe to an offer at 1.99 euros per month to benefit from storage up to 100 GB. The most gourmet in space will also find two subscriptions adapted to their consumption: 200 GB for 2.99 euros per month and 2 tera for 9.99 euros per month.

On all of these offers, Google offers a 16% discount for any annual payment, or 19.99 euros per year for the 100 GB offer and 29.99 euros per year for the 200 GB offer. At this rate, the application is accessible at any time in the same way from a Mac, a PC, an Android or iOS device. Among the negative points, the size of a photo will not be able to exceed 16 MB, beyond, it will be resized automatically and will lose in quality. This format will however be sufficient for most of the catches taken with a smartphone, but can be a little just for professional work. Another downside: Google’s computers analyze your images to collect data and offer you targeted advertisements. Private lovers will therefore go their way.

Amazon photo: Unlimited photo storage with premium

In competition with Google in several fields, Amazon also offers a storage service, the main advantage of which is to maintain the resolution and quality of the images. The Amazon Photos Platform Offers 5 GB of free storage, then starts its paid offer at 1.99 euros per month per 100 GB. Beyond that, it will be necessary to take out a subscription to 9.99 euros per month for 1 tera of data (or around 500.000 photos at 2 MB). Good plan: for Amazon Prime subscribers (the unlimited delivery service of the online commerce giant, which costs around 50 euros per year), storage is unlimited for photos and capped at 5 GB for videos.

Flickr Pro for images sharing

The Flickr sharing site offers storage with a special option that allows your loved ones to help you store your photos. You just have to allow your friends or family to intervene on an album so that they classify the images, add comments or information. The free version is limited to 1.000 photos or videos. If you need unlimited storage, you can subscribe to the Flickr Pro version, at a rate of 7.49 euros per month, reduced to 5.49 euros per month if you choose annual pricing.

Joomeo, the French platform

If you fear that your photos are stored anywhere in the world, the Joomeo platform undertakes to keep your images in servers in France. This French start-up offers 5 GB of free storage without advertising or commitment. Beyond that, the offer is 2.40 euros per month for 50 GB, 4.50 euros per month per 100 GB and 8.90 euros for 1 tera. Ideal for photography enthusiasts, the service also manages exif data and images up to 200 MB.

iCloud, for Apple fanatics, but not just

iCloud, the Apple platform, well known to apple users of the apple brand, is also compatible with PCs. She offers 5 GB of free storage to her subscribers. Unfortunately, the service is not compatible with Android phones, but remains accessible from a PC. In terms of prices, once is not custom but Apple is among the cheapest on the market. The Californian giant invoices 0.99 euros per month for 50 GB of storage, then 2.99 euros per month for 200 GB and finally 9.99 euros per month for 2 tera.

Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, Idrive… less suitable clouds

Less expensive than platforms specializing in photos, general cloud services are also less suitable for storage of images. For example, the files do not present an overview, which does not facilitate research, and it is often necessary to download the images to be able to open them, which penalizes the devices with a low storage capacity. Price level however, these platforms are unbeatable: Idrive offers in particular 5 tera for only 3.70 euros per month with an annual subscription. For its part, ONEDRIVE from Microsoft invoices 2 euros per month for 100 GB. Only Dropbox Maintaining tariffs similar to Google and Apple with 2 data of data for 9.99 euros.

Google Photos: Unlimited storage is back, but not for everyone

It’s been several months since Google had ended unlimited photos of photos on Google Photos, a feature that was however very appreciated by the Android community. This one makes its return today, but not for everyone.

Google Photos

Abandoned since June 1, 2021, unlimited storage on Google Photos allowed users of Android smartphones for not having to worry about their backups, since everything was saved in the cloud unlimitedly. However, since that date, Users had to turn to other options to save their photos, including Google One. Recently, WhatsApp has also abandoned its unlimited storage system for backups.

Google One offers you cloud storage for a fairly competitive rate, Since it offers 200 GB for 2.99 euros per month, 2 TB for 9.99 euros, 10 TB for 99.99 euros and 20 TB for 199.99 euros. To the delight of certain users, Google has just decided to include its storage subscription on the packages of a mobile operator.

T-Mobile is the first to offer unlimited storage on Google Photos

From April 26, Customers of the American operator T-Mobile will be able to subscribe to an option including Two teraoctes of Google One storage space and unlimited storage in original resolution in Google Photos for $ 15 more per month. The existing Google One plan of two teraoctets, open to all, costs $ 10 per month, which means that the unlimited storage of more photos will not cost you that five additional dollars.

While many people will have more than sitting for their photos and videos with 2 TB, some enthusiasts may need more, especially if they take a lot of photos or videos on Android smartphones range. Indeed, 8K videos for 108 MP photos can quickly saturate your storage space.

For the moment, we do not know exactly when this new option will be deployed on the T-Mobile packages, but it should arrive “soon”, according to the operator. We hope that Google will not be satisfied with its partnership with T-Mobile and will also allow other operators to take advantage of it.
