Family Link information document for parents of children under the age of 13 (or not yet reached the authorized age in their country)
Your confidence is essential, and authorizing your child to have a Google account is not a trivial decision. Take the time to review this important information to find out more.
Your child’s google account
Your child’s Google account is similar to yours and will therefore allow him to access many Google products and services, including services that have not been designed or adapted for children. Here are some examples of what your child can do with his account:
- Ask questions, connect to the Internet and carry out searches using the Google, Chrome and Google research assistant;
- Communicate with other users thanks to Gmail, by SMS, via video and audio calls, and other means of communication;
- Download, buy and use apps, games, music, movies, etc. ;
- Create, display and share photos, videos, presentations, documents and other types of content;
- Follow health and fitness information such as activity level and heart rate in Google Fit (according to your child’s devices);
- See contextual ads while using Google services.
Family link and parental supervision
Google’s Family Link App aims to help you set basic rules and guide your child when he sails the Internet. Your child will be part of your Google family group, which allows you to share Google services with him and up to four other family members. You can then add another parent to help you supervise your child’s account. Parents can use Family Link to do things like:
- Define the time of use on Android or Chromeos of their child’s devices;
- Locate the active Android devices to which their child is connected;
- Approve their child’s downloads and purchases on Google Play and Stadia, or limit the visibility of the content according to its classification;
- Help their child to select the types of activity that can be saved in their Google account and show them how to use them in order to personalize their experience;
- Manage parameters like Saffeearch for Google research;
- Check the authorizations of their child’s apps concerning the microphone, the camera and access to contacts on Android and Chromeos;
- Modify content and access settings, as well as other parameters related to YouTube features (if available), including YouTube and YouTube Kids.
Parental control Family Link can allow you to supervise and manage what your child does on his device, but don’t forget the following limitations:
- Although many parameters of family control Family Link can be managed on the web, you must have the Family Link app on Android or iOS to manage certain features, such as time of use time.
- Certain parameters, such as SafeSearch, chromium restrictions linked to websites or play filters of the Play Store, make it possible to limit access to inappropriate content, but they are not foolproof. Even if they are activated, your child will undoubtedly have access to content little suited to his age.
- No parental approval is required in the following cases: if your child again downloads an app or other type of content previously approved, if it installs an app update (including an update aimed at Add content, request additional information or additional authorizations) or if it downloads shared content from your Google Play family library.
- Certain Family Link features are accompanied by limited availability, and require precise parameters and special circumstances to operate. For example, so that you can block apps, your child must be connected to an Android or Chromeos compatible device. And if you want to locate your device in the Family Link app, this Android device must be turned on and connected to the Internet.
When your child is 13 years old (age can vary depending on the country), he can choose to manage his account alone, without your supervision.

If the mail app on your mac is constantly asking you for your password
The mail app may indicate that it cannot connect to your email account and repeatedly invite you to enter your password.
If your Mac is connected to the Internet but suddenly invites you to enter the password of your email account, it is generally recommended to try again later. If necessary, you can contact your email provider so that it helps you solve the problem. Find out how to solve the problems related to iCloud email if you use this Apple messaging service.
Why does the mail app ask you for your password ?
- You do not use your current messaging password. If you have changed it on another device, make sure you use the same password on your Mac.
- Your messaging provider requires a modification or reset of your password for security reasons. For example, if you use two -step validation of Google, access to your Gmail account in mail requires the appropriate application password.
- Your email provider has disabled or suspended your account. Contact him to get help.
Check your password in Internet Accounts Preferences
Depending on the type of messaging account you use, you may be able to correct your password by proceeding as follows:
- Mail. If the app does not close, you can force its closure.
- Select the Apple menu > System settings (or system preferences), then click Internet accounts.
- Click on your email account.
- Click the Detail button, if applicable.
- If a password field is displayed for your account, delete the password and enter the appropriate password.
- Close the setting window, then open email and try to use your account.
If email always invites you to enter your password, it is likely that the one you have provided is incorrect. Your email provider can help you check the settings for your email account and make sure you use the right password.
Perform a test via web messaging
Many messaging suppliers offer a web messaging service. This type of service allows you to use your messaging using a web browser like Safari, instead of a messaging app such as mail. For example, if you have an iCloud email account, you can send and receive emails from the iCloud site.com.
The password you use with email is usually the same as the one you use with web messaging, try to connect to web messaging using this password. If the problem persists, it is likely that your password is incorrect. Your email provider can help you check your account settings and make sure you use the appropriate password for the mail app.
Delete your account, then add it again
If no other solution works, try to configure your email account again. For that, proceed as following :
- Delete your email account in mail.
- Add your email account again to email.
