As expected, The deal between HBO and OCS ended on January 1, 2023. Thus, it is a vast majority of series of the American premium chain which has disappeared from the French catalog, always more in bad shape.

The last nail in the ocs coffin ?

OCS has just lost its main argument, the one who could really encourage users and users to invest more than ten euros per month: access to HBO series. If the very recent seasons and series, namely those which date from less than two years, are still there (for the moment), everything else has disappeared. Thus, more than 60 series are no longer disseminated at all or in their entirety in France.

While waiting to know who will welcome them (the name of Prime Video is often cited), and to discover how OCS will manage the rest (the buyout by Canal+ seems always more inevitable), let’s see more detail what has disappeared. And here is once again the absurdity of the economic model of the platforms, which in addition often prevents outings in Bluray or DVD to force to take a subscription at home, and therefore deprive people to rebuild a small series of there a few years old.

The second season of Euphoria is still available.

That’s why I continue to buy DVDs or Bluray, but they’ll last. For my part, nothing streaming at home.

Personally, after losing several Bluray readers despite several trials in brands supposed to make repairs or the first prices ..
I only have streaming. Certainly we have no certainty about availability, but the creation of a video library provided is less honest, the choice is evolving, finally we can try series or film in which we would not have invested.
In short the tastes and colors ..
However, I agree that the economic model essentially based on exclusivity is in my opinion an absurdity. I can understand it over a year, a defined period, but when we find a series where we have season 1 to X on a platform and x a z on another … We frolic ridicule. Finally the geographic limits … I keep for me what it inspires me.
The good news is that competition will clean up in an offer that has become overwhelming up to a new non -sense … On the other hand for the Economic model is not on.

A date for the release of HBO Max in France suddenly?

Suddenly some series have only the end of available now … I wanted to do myself “His Dark Materials” but suddenly season 1 disappeared, it is a kind of incomprehensible non -sense … Either you leave the whole series or you vires the whole series, but leaving only one part leaves me, at best, doubtful.

This is a question of copyright. I think OCS signed contracts for three years. So anything that is less than three years old can stay. But it is indeed quite absurd on the editorial level, especially since OCS has never communicated completely officially at the end of its partnership with HBO.

DVD or Blu-ray physical supports ? Ah no thanks.
I have known that with CD and DVDs and it clearly takes up too much space.
In addition I am the type to never watch the same film twice (it happens to me but it remains rare)
For series for sure, never twice 2 times. So suddenly, what would I use physical support that will drag and take the dust.
There are so many beautiful things to look at that a life would not be enough anyway.
And again, I only have Netflix and video bonus and already like that I can’t see everything.

Where do we find them now ? In the Warner pass reserved for Prime Video subscribers, which will nevertheless have to subscribe to an additional subscription. After having signed a partnership last January, Amazon and Warner Bros Discovery, launch their new offer on March 16. It will be necessary to pay € 9.99 per month, to have access to the entire HBO as well as to the twelve channels of the Warner group (among which are Warner TV, Adult Swim, TCM Cinema, Discovery Channel and Eurosport).

Bad news for OCS subscribers: a large part of the HBO programs catalog has just left the platform. The contract binding the chain to the operator has not been renewed, and a large household was made. So what is the future of OCS ?

HBO and OCS, it’s over !

Historically in France, HBO series are broadcast on the OCS streaming platform. But, unfortunately for subscribers, the contract between them has not been renewed. Result, the great classics of HBO as Game Of Thrones, The Wire or Six feet under have not been accessible since OCS since January 1, 2023, and we should not count there the group’s future productions as ‌The last of us. In all, more than 60 series left the catalog overnight.

This change is explained by the fact that HBO is working on the launch of its own streaming service in Europe. If we were initially expected to see HBO Max arriving in 2023, It was confirmed last August that the service will not be deployed in Europe. Canal + would thus be ready to buy OCS : the group already has a third of OCS. OCS changes its offer

Following the loss of the HBO catalog, OCS reorganizes its content offer. On January 12, OCS City and OCS Choc became OCS Pulp, presented as “the Chain of Strees and Independent Cinema”, joining OCS Max, the chain of the big show for the whole family, and Giant OCS, the chain of legendary films.
