Learn more about the Huawei P60 Pro
We finally know its price on the old continent. This Tuesday, May 9 marks the European launch of the Huawei P60 Pro, one of the annual flagships of the Chinese brand.
A high -end smartphone already formalized in China at the end of March 2023 alongside the Huawei P60 and P60 Art. However, this model remains the flagship of Huawei and the European model retains most of the characteristics of the Chinese model.
A variable opening photo sensor
The Huawei P60 Pro changes its design somewhat compared to last year, with a new placement of its photo modules. Its edges are always curved, however, as well as its 6.67 -inch OLED LTPO screen, refreshed up to 120 Hz. An imposing model of 200 grams also waterproof (IP68).
Huawei mainly emphasizes photography permitted by his smartphone, with a main high-angle lens of 48 megapixels with variable opening of f/1.4 to f/4.0, allowing him to better understand difficult light situations. However, we will wait for our test to check it.
Likewise, the brand praises a 48 megapixel telephoto lens at the opening ” wider than any smartphone », Accompanied by an ultra-angle and a 13-megapixel front camera.
Under the hood, we also find the power and endurance of a flagship on paper, with a battery of 4815 mAh rechargeable up to 88 W in wired and 50 W wireless, as well as a snapdragon 8+ chip Gen 1… limited however to a 4G connection.
A high price for an incomplete smartphone
Because yes, keep in mind that Huawei is still subject to the American embargo pronounced in 2019, which prevents this 2023 model from using 5G and offering Google services (Play Store, Drive, Gmail, etc.))
The Chinese version of this smartphone is therefore offered under the Harmonyos operating system. But rest assured, this European version of the Huawei P60 Pro is nevertheless sold under a light version of Android with the EMUI 13 interface.1.
Two variants and two colors
If this does not scare you, the smartphone is therefore available in France now and in two versions:
- 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for 1200 euros;
- 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage for 1400 euros.
The model is sold in two colors: a version with a pearly white back called ” Rococo pearl »And a more classic black version.
Huawei P60 Pro test: a premium photophone with incomplete experience
This is the first smartphone that Huawei markets on the European market in 2023. The P60 Pro, a resolutely premium model, gives pride of place to photography to better forget its gray areas.
Presentation
In Europe, Huawei mainly focuses on connected objects and headphones True Wireless. The Chinese brand is nevertheless present on the smartphone market, but is content to market a selection of its most upscale models, such as the P60 Pro announced in March 2023 in China. This smartphone invites itself alone in France, without the standard P60, and sells for a price that classifies it among the flagships of telephony. It will therefore be necessary to pay € 1199 for the 8/256 GB version and € 1399 with 12/512 GB.
For this price, Huawei intends to offer what he can do best. Large OLED LTPO screen, triple photo module with periscopic zoom, fast load at 88 W, IP68 certification, but also an 8+ Gen 1 snapdragon chip dating from 2022, all offset by incompatibility with Google and 5G services. Competitors of choice impose themselves at equivalent prices, from the Samsung Galaxy S23 to the Honor Magic 5 Pro, passing through the Xiaomi 13 Pro, which all have passed the test of our laboratory brilliantly.
Ergonomics and design
Seen from the front, the P60 Pro looks a line for the line of the P50 PRO. He practically wears the same 6.67 -inch screen (6.6 inches last year) with curved edges, slightly less however however and with centered punch at the top. Its dimensions are barely larger, the terminal measuring 161 x 74.5 x 8.3 mm (158.8 x 72.8 x 8.5 mm in 2022). Its weight of 200 g class in the average of the smartphones of its template and the grip, thanks to curved slices, is pleasant. The reactive fingerprint reader is for its part located under the screen.
It is the back of the P60 Pro which distinguishes it from its elder. Our test version has a pearly pattern (we like or hate), whose finish is noted to the frosted effect. The fingerprints do not appear there, and it’s pleasant. This shell hosts a photo block which is not likely to go unnoticed, with its “eye” above and below, from which stand two other modules. The island in question is thick by several millimeters; In the absence of a shell (but supplied), it unbalances the smartphone when placed flat. The very fine ignition and volume keys are located on the right edge and are easily accessible.
The P60 PRO can accommodate two 4G nano-Sim cards only, Huawei remaining private 5G modem. The second port hosts, in the absence of a SIM, a Nanomemory card, memory card in the owner format of Huawei. What to advantageously complement the 256 or 512 GB of storage provided by the manufacturer, but with a limited offer. On the other hand, we note the absence of E-SIM support, however very practical. Connectivity level, note that the terminal is compatible with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, and that it can be loaded in wireless mode.
Finally, the P60 Pro benefits from IP68 certification which guarantees its resistance to water and scratches. Its screen is protected by a Kulun window, the competing home technology of the Gorilla Glass of Corning. Overall, the device is pleasant in hand and not too heavy. The main gap is due to its connectivity limited to 4G.

Screen
The P50 PRO sported a very large screen and its successor does not overthrow the trend. The P60 Pro thus has a 6.7 -inch OLED panel with LTPO technology which grants it a dynamic refresh rate, between 1 and 120 Hz. This slab displays a definition of 1220 x 2700 pixels, a resolution of 444 ppi. It is more or less identical to the P50 Pro.
But the P60 Pro is distinguished by an important element: its maximum brightness, much higher than that of its elder. We measured 1186 cd/m², or approximately 300 cd/m² additional, which is appreciable when using the smartphone in full sun. This is not the only asset of the screen that has the merit of being very well calibrated at the box output. We have measured a very low Delta E of 1.1, i.e. imperceptible colorimetric drifts – almost only in red -, but also an average temperature of 6615 k, barely greater than 6,500 k of reference. These values are without any particular adjustment, since the normal color mode, which allows them to be obtained, is activated by default. It is possible to opt for bright colors, for a colder temperature and more saturated colors … A choice that we therefore do not recommend.
For the rest, the P60 PRO enjoys an almost infinite contrast, a zero resident time thanks to the use of the OLED, and a touch delay contained at 61 ms. A perfectly successful screen !
Performance
Difficult not to feel frustrated to discover the P60 Pro, which opts for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip of 2022, even though its successor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, flies in the smartphones that we tested these last months. It goes without saying that Huawei is plagued by the same other avenues as last year and ignores 5G. At this price, the integration of a simple 4G modem does not go unnoticed.
The Qualcomm chip is accompanied by 8 to 12 GB of RAM (8 GB in our test version) to the undeniable efficiency. THE chipset is of a flawless velocity on a daily basis, outclassing certain competitors with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on this ground. In terms of graphic performance, the terminal remains however behind these devices. He manages to display an average of almost 62 I/S, which is completely comfortable, and we do not deplore a fall in framerate, The smartphone oscillating between 78 and 53 i/s on our test sessions. What play demanding games, but not always with their highest graphic settings.
Our performance tests are carried out with aim, the application developed by the company Smartvis.

Photo
Photography has always been Huawei’s strong point on its high -end models. This P60 Pro is no exception to the rule. It is however less well equipped than its predecessor, with only three modules against four in 2022. The black & white sensor unfortunately goes to the hatch. For the rest, alignment is significantly the same, only the maximum definition goes from 50 to 48 megapixels.
So we have a main module of 48 Mpx with an opening from f/1.4 to f/4. It is accompanied by an ultra-wide-angle module of 13 Mpx and a telephoto lens of 48 MPs offering magnification x3.5. An X10 digital zoom is also available thanks to this telephoto lens, as is a macro mode.
Main module: 48 Mpx, F/1.4-F/4.0, éq. 27 mm
By day, the P60 Pro delivers a perfectly exposed shot with very natural colors. The bitter is greater than what the Xiaomi 13 Pro can offer, even if it must be recognized that the two competitors are generally at equal level on this point.
An almost similar observation can be made by scanning a shot in low light. Color reproduction is a bit better on the Xiaomi 13 Pro, just like the level of detail. That said, the contrast is more marked on the Huawei smartphone.
If the center of our scene is faithfully reproduced, this is not exactly the case of the periphery. The level of detail is simply less good than on a P50 pro, despite the variable focal length. As it stands, it is not catastrophic, but that is what limits its four-star sub-note, and not to the five attributed to its predecessor. The full definition mode, which therefore uses 48 MPs, is not very relevant as to the general quality of the image. It is a bit unhappy, but it will rather be necessary to opt for the default definition of 12 Mpx (Pixel Binning by 4).
Ultra Grand-Angle Module: 13 MPX, F/2,2, éq. 13 mm
We often repeat it, but the field of the ultra-angle is never as conclusive as we would like it. But with this P60 Pro, Huawei succeeds where many fail. The image has a good level of detail, a respected colorimetry and good light. The shot is as good as some pulled with a large-angle module; A real tour de force of Chinese.
Even at night, the smartphone is doing pretty well. The cliché is far from excellent, but has the merit of getting into the vagueness present with its competitors. This is well confronted with the Xiaomi 13 Pro, which had not brought satisfaction on this point.
Telephoto: 48 Mpx, F/2.1, eq. 95 mm
Tele -makers tend to improve over the years, as long as the magnification chosen by brands is not too insane. After very successful X2, it is the X3 zoom and more which is now the norm. For three iterations in the P range, Huawei has been selling an X3.5 telephoto lens whose adjustments make it better this year. The image is detailed, well exposed and does not suffer from the microcontrast a little too applied in Xiaomi, for example. Even on the outskirts, the P60 Pro can be capable, which is not so easy.
The night is still the land to be conquered by telephoto lens. If the cliché drools a little, it remains significantly more exploitable than that proposed by the Xiaomi 13 Pro. We also notice a good improvement in night shots compared to the P50 Pro, even the P40 Pro+ which tended to offer too contrasting images … when they were not just blurred.
Front module, portrait and video mode
The P60 PRO takes up the front module of 13 mpx of the P50 Pro. Thus, self -portraits will not be different as what the old model proposed. The selfies are good, rather well detailed, but you will have to pay attention to the ambient brightness. The presence of an autofocus is pleasant and avoids the effect of blurring.
Portrait mode is of the same ilk as selfies. The cutting is good, even if we identify some problems on the usual details, such as hair and glasses – which is not the case with the back modules. The portrait mode turns out to be more than convincing, whether with the Grand Angle or the Telephoto. Special mention to the X10 zoom which captures a good level of detail for self -portraits from afar. The clutch is ultra precise and the background blurred fairly light so that it does not make too much “software”.
On video, the flagship of Huawei can film up to 4K at 30 or 60 i/s, exactly like its predecessor.
Autonomy
The P60 Pro is equipped with a battery of 4814 mAh, up compared to its predecessor (4360 mAh). It is always a little less than the vast majority of its competitors, who most often opt for accumulators of 5000 mAh. This does not prevent it from ensuring very respectable endurance, since we timed 5:54 p.m. during our target trials. What to hold a big day far from the charger, even a little more.
This charger comes with the smartphone, in the reverse of the current trend. This block is interesting, because it leaves the choice of cable to the user with two USB-A and USB-C ports. Too bad they cannot be used simultaneously, being so close to each other ..
This block delivers a power of 88 W (66 W for the P50 Pro) which ensures the full of the smartphone in 36 min. A very appreciable short period. Let us add that the P60 Pro is compatible with the wireless load at 50 W, like its predecessor.
Our battery tests are automated by target, the application developed by the company Smartvis.
The results obtained with target come from measurements made in real conditions of use (calls, SMS, videos, application launch, web navigation, etc.).
Sustainability
Our sustainability score makes it possible to determine the lasting aspect of the smartphone as much for the consumer as for the environment. It is based on the repairability index, sustainability criteria (protection index, standard connectors, duration of warranty and updates, etc.) and an assessment of CSR policies (corporate social responsibility). You will find all the details of the analysis in our article presenting the sustainability score.
The P60 Pro runs on Android without the services of Google. This is Android 12 dressed in UI emotion.1, Huawei’s interface. It does not change much compared to EMUI 12: there are essentially quick access to the sub-tubrics of the apps via long support on their icon, intelligent files and widgets in the form of cards.
For the rest, you must accept HMS (Huawei Mobile Services), full of alternatives to Google apps. It is possible to download applications from the house portal, but also third -party services. Las, some do not work in the absence of GMS, which most penalizes this smartphone.
Let us concede that thanks to the GSPACE preinstalled app, which “simulates” the installation of GMS, it becomes possible to download all types of apps on the play store. The user must therefore agree to get around the difficulty, download applications within GSPACE, then create shortcuts to said apps to access it from the home screen. Recall that GSPACE is not developed by Google, that it includes advertisements and that its reliability is not guaranteed.
