February 7 (Reuters) – The American application of meetings Bumbles announced on Monday the acquisition of its French rival Fruitz, its first acquisition which should allow it to strengthen its presence in Europe and try to catch up with the mother house of Tinder and Meetic , Match group.
The financial terms of the operation have not been disclosed.
Launched in 2017, Fruitz is a meeting of meetings used throughout Europe and very popular with young adults. It works on the “Freemium” model, with free access but certain paid features.
The application allows users to target their preferences in terms of meetings through four fruit metaphors – cherries, grapes, watermelons and peaches.
The redemption of Fruitz allows Bumble to tackle its rival Match Group, which has one step ahead of being the first to embark on the online meetings sector.
Bumble currently offers its Badoo meeting application in Western Europe, competition with sites like Eharmony and Charmdate.com.
“Badoo is one of the most downloaded dating applications in Western Europe, and Bumble has also experienced strong growth,” said Whitney Wolfe Herd, Director General of Bumble, in a press release.
For his part, Match announced at the beginning of the month planning to launch his Hinge dating site in certain European countries during the second quarter.
Despite the health improvement in many countries, meeting applications do not expect an immediate revival of activity, the pandemic and associated health restrictions continuing to brake meetings.
